...tonight, opening for...I dunno, left after the Joggers because THAT'S HOW FUCKING AMAZING THEY WERE. I missed them before and that's pretty much the only thing that's getting me down.

I listened to the songs you posted on Smugg's this morning and they were pretty good. Where were they playing that they're done so early?

EDIT: Oh wait, it's 11:30 there.

Opened for...PGMG and...Giant Sand (?). Because they're so awesome, they actually went on at a quarter to 9, so they could play a full set. Mid East Down.

I was fixated.

You took off before Giant Drag and Pretty Girls Make Graves?

I have to listen to the one Joggers album I have again.

Actually, I really can't see you being too much into either of those bands.

I don't think I've seen Clickers or Tristan Da Cuhna. I'm horrible at seeing local bands.

Yeah...PGMG kinda lost me after the first record, which still rocks, and I've only listened to a few Drag songs. Granted, I was only there to see Joggers in the first place, and I was bopping around like a kid to my favorite band, but I was so done by the end of their set, there was no point in sticking around. Also had to get back to the Sox game. :)

Clickers and/or Tristan on a good night were/are the best bands on the planet.

that is so funny, we were just talking about going to this show last night and then it was like, oh, right, it's now.

Giant Sand is all over NME, Q, etc. I need to check them out.

yeah the live show is definitely the best part of The Joggers. I've seen them open for a few different acts, and they put on a great show every time. I own every record because of that, but don't really like any of them. It's weird.

I actually really dig the recordings...I go off into my own little air guitar fanboy frenzy in my head when I listen to them. It's so adolescent.

Here's the first song from the last record:

it's giant DRAG, annie's currently touring with pretty girls right now... i love them, but then again i'm biased because they're local and my best friend is good friends with her.

last time i saw the joggers (opening for ted leo), they weren't that great live and i was kind of disappointed. could've been an off night. missed them the last time they came to la so i'm definitely waiting to see them again.

I was trying to think of a good way to describe them last night and boy did I not come up with one...maybe take a really complex, inter-weaving Skynyrd solo and have that be the basic riff for a band that takes some influence from the post-punk groups, with lots of start-stop, off-kilter rhythms and timing, but with a vocal approach that at times recalls a somewhat agitated, though subtly anthemic Damon Albarn.

Hahahhahah. AMG's not much help either.

I don't expect that lots of people will take to them immediately and the easy critique is to call what they do "noodling," which will probably turn off a lot of folks. It took a while for them to click with me, but woah...

I'm going to this same show in NYC tomorrow, I think. I really dig the Joggers last record, I need to get their first one.

Also, several of my fav NYC music bloggers list the Jogger's last show at Rothko as the current best concert of 06. I have high hopes, and I'm pissed i missed it. had to be in texas that weekend.
