i like the record as a record. none of the songs jumped out to me but the album as a whole rules.

That's the way I feel also. He plays guitar and sings some for Broken Social Scene but his solo stuff is a bit more traditional in song structures and arrangements. The guy is talented. His new one, with "Hangover Days", is called "Idols of Exile". I dig it. It has some slow acoustic numbers and driving rock songs. (Can't bring myself to say "driving rockers" for some reason.) He

He gets a thumbs up from me. Solid record. I wish I had a RIYL for you. If you liked the BSS and Stars stuff you'll probably like this. Some songs even have a country-ish vibe to them and I mean that in a good way. Good light, summery record.

I need to hear more of him. He's played SK at least once since I've been here but have never got out to see him.

I like his album a lot.

I thought it was going to be more of the standard guy and guitar stuff that I have so much of and it is, but it caught me off guard with some curves.

Or something. Man, I suck at this. Luckily you're going to buy it, because ultimately, that's what I'd tell you to do.

I like the lead-in drum beat from the first song, "Fire" (also good, with a great little dotty synth pattern) to "Hangover Days." The last song, "These Are The Days" was one of my favorites from last year.

He's been a member of BSS since You Forgot It In People, though I think he's not in the group anymore. I remember Kevin and Andrew saying something at a live show about him leaving. Probably to dedicate more time to his solo career.

He used to play in a band called Bird before all this. He's released three solo albums. Idols Of Exile is his newest release. It features guest appearances by Amy Millan, Feist and all the regular crew. It has a couple of really stellar tracks, but it hasn't grabbed me as a whole item.

His previous album, Motor Motel Love Songs, is amazing and possibly one of my top ten records of all time. It features a guest appearance by Hawksley Workman on one track. I saw him open for Lisa Loeb a year or two ago and it was pretty good. Just him and the acoustic guitar and he told little anecdotes and stories between songs.

And he's married. And he has two music videos. I think that's about all I know about him.

Well, he's pretty tall. And I'm a 10.5. So maybe a 12?

i saw him last month and it made me vow to never see a singer-songwriter at a wrigleyville venue on the night of a cubs day game. he's pretty vanilla, but good vanilla. when i saw him open for broken social scene, he was very good. this last time was pretty mediocre. i've only heard motor motel love songs.
