Came across this vid on Youtube and was giving thought to Watt's portfolio of work and work ethic. I mean, damn. It's not all worthy of 5-star ratings, but overall, it's pretty fucking impressive. The Minutemen, Firehose, Ballhog..., Contemplating..., etc. IMO, it's just a lot of good shit and given all of the crap he's been through, the man deserves props.

A little research uncovered the fact that the Minutemen documentary (We Jam Econo) is being released as a 2-disc set in late June.

Anyway, I'm no musician (Phil or others may have opinions on his bass playing), but the dude just seems to get it done.

Disc 2: 62 live songs from 3 full shows. Awesome!

Minutemen I rarely can find fault with. fIREHOSE I love, but Ed's voice is weak and later songs weren't as good as earlier one.

Watt's solo albums, even when there's next to naught for melody, hooks or prettiness to be found are always rooted in gut-wrenching personal truth and are probably some of the most unflinching autobiography to be set to music.

Really, really admire the man even if he's never gonna have a big dance hit or nothin'.

Phil said it well.

Maybe it was my mood and my poor, untimely selection of "Introducing the Minutement" today, but I actually commented that I don't like the Minutemen, but I do love Watt's solo work. Of course, I do like the Minutemen, but I prefer his solo albums, and was introduced by them. "Contemplating the Engine Room" particularly is fantastic.

Such a great man. It's a pleasure to be in the same room as him.

Much love and bass.
