I know of Django's, but need some more you guys have dealt with in the past.

I'm looking for Ten Hands, in particular.

Thanks.

half.com and Amazon.com are all anyone needs - most other online stores seem to sell through them (I know Djangos does because I've received stuff from them when buying through Amazon.)

Ten Hands on Amazon, in case you somehow didn't check there: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/searc ... nds&page=1

I agree with The Mayor...99.9% of the time, Amazon/Half is the way to go.

This is true if you are looking for a certain cd and want to buy it right now. Secondspin, Djangos and Spun all provide you with the opportunity to log things you are looking for though. Djangos and Spun will notify you buy email when they come in stock used. Secondspin just gives you a customized page which lists everything they have in stock among albums or artists that you pick. Spun is the least interesting of the three. Its prices aren't as good and it stocks less. I used to buy a lot from djangos. I still do buy a lot from secondspin.

Can we make this topic a sticky, as I think this comes up every 3-6 months?

I've been a member for about 1 month now, and have received almost 20 CDs so far. I have no major complaints but imagine it isn't the best for brand-spankin' new releases. A few people sent just the CD itself with no artwork, but since I started to specifically request it I have received it every time. Overall, I highly recommend it, especially for $1.50 a CD.

Half.com has a wishlist and email notifications, too.

You can request cover art? That's cool - I had no interest in this when I saw that the discs weren't guaranteed any artwork. I want it all or nothing - I will pay extra elsewhere to get it all. Why would the original owner keep the artwork anyway?

Edited to add: How do you tell the "seller" that you want the artwork? I figured it was a setting in your account, but I see nothing that allows you to add that disclaimer.

I think the idea is that after X number of rounds of sharing the same CD, it would be tough to expect to keep the artwork together, especially since you ship the disc in a special mailer sans jewel case.

They're introducing a "premium" service that will match up people who always want artwork with other people who always want artwork. I imagine it will cost a bit more, but don't see it being over $2.

You can tell the sender that you want artwork by posting on their page, sending a private message, or adding "I want artwork!" to your user name.

I imagine some people are burning a copy of the CD and then keeping the artwork with the burned copy, or they just don't have it in the first place for whatever reason.

La la sounds like the library with a better selection, but with the added shipping fees.

So is the general idea to just rip stuff and send it on?

Yeah, and it's MUCH MUCH better than the library near me, which has about 4 budget classical CDs and a few audiobooks.

No, but I won't be surprised if this is the case for quite a few users.

And that's why the majors hate lala. They fear exactly that. lala's user agreement requires users to delete ripped files for cds that they send to anyone but everyone is on the honor system.
