What were some cringeworthy moments of 2004?

4030 terrorizing cmj for about 3 months

'The Hipinioin is disgusting thread' and subsequently related events.

My lack of posting discipline

this can apply to anything outside of the board as well.

example:

Tara Reid's boob hanging out for 10 minutes while being interviewed.

A recent but notable addition: the Pitchfork top 50 thread. If those panties were twisted any tighter, legs would be coming off left and right.

i didnt see 'the office' until 2004, so i'll go with david brent's introduction to the slough branch, or his motivational speech.
those both made me cringe.
in a good way.

bad cringes go to tbs' nonstop running of gilligan's island promos that actually ran for longer than the series, tara reid, paris hilton, ashlee simpson, pop culture, and my old boss, who was one of the most disgustingly paranoid people i've ever met. and that's including myself.

Agree with this and glad I couldn’t post for a few days. Funny to look at it after the fact but I like the arguing, it shows passion. Don’t like it when it gets personal though.

Amen to that.

Not to turn this into a Blueberry Boat thing, but that was my most amazing listen of 2004.

Cringeworthy for me would have to be a Canadian minority government. Of course, that's a relative cringe to most. Steven Harper creeps me out.

Sorry to continue the hijack, but I'd have to agree. This album induces the most disparate responses in recent memory. My wife absolutely cannot stand it when I play this record, but I love it---one of the best of the year.

My retrospective, completely irrelevant cringe occurs when I think about taking Jamal Lewis and Travis Henry 1-2 in my fantasy football draft.

Both of these suckas are from University of Tennessee. Coincidence? I think Not!

Speaking of the U. of Tennessee and the obvious hatred there of, I received a book called Rammer Jammer Yellow Hammer: A Journey Into the Heart of Fan Mania by Warren St. John for Xmas. I'm about 50 pages into it and I think you SEC football fans would really enjoy it. It's written by a rabid Alabama fan, regarding the psychology of sports fanaticism---really interesting thus far.

Yep. My wife's the same. But for people who have been married more a dozen years, we've managed to almost never see eye to eye about music.

I do think the first four songs on Blueberry Boat are not as solid as the rest of the CD. They're artsy-prog for the sake of artsy-prog, but not as memorable as Track 5 on.

Still my #2 of the year, though.

Yep, 12+ years here as well, and our musical tastes definitely don't mesh often, but that's ok.

And Chief Inspector Blancheflower makes that album for me---love that song.

Bush declaring he's going to spend his "political capital."

Rumsfeld saying that you go into war with what you have, not with want you want to have.

Bush explaining that Rumsfeld is "a caring fellow."

Hell, just about everything Dubya and Rummy said this year.

remember that time when janet jackson's breast popped out and children's heads across america exploded all over the place?

and i can't appreciate blueberry boat one bit - friedberger 1's voice is cringe-inducing, and friedberger 2 needs to learn how to play bass, or learn how to ask someone to play bass for the band at least.

also, once i hit when i was on 17. that was just plain stupid.

It taking 32 hours of driving to get from Philadelphia to northern Vermont to see Phish, and spending probably 20 of those in near stand still traffic feeling intensely sad that it was really a terrible situation to be in.

I gave a sh*t in reverse.

Sure, the little jig she did in response to the wrong song being cued demonstrated her immaturity, but the acid reflux defense for why she needed a cued cover in the first place is totally believable and defensible. For proof, just examine her MTV show for Making the Album: Ashlee Simpson: she had to consult with and receive injections from Dr. Sugarman (who, if you'll recall, is also Henry Rollins' "Rock n' Roll Throat Doctor").
