I actually don't mind this. It could've been a good song.

Has anyone ever covered this and done it 'properly'?

No i think its a great song hiding underneath.

Maybe it wouldnt have the same effect if it were a 'conventional' song though?

I'm usually pretty open-minded, but this is absolutely awful.

I love Laurie Andersen.
It took me awhile to get into her, but once you do she's wicked.

Please bear in mind:

- the song is from the 80s
- she's not a pop artist, in fact she's known as being an experimental artist

Spiritualized covers her song "Born Never Asked" (from the same album) on Pure Phase.

You should really listen to the whole album.
I also love "Let X=X". Great stuff.

I lived there during that time and have no recollection of ever hearing this song.

Someone did a techno remix of 'O Superman' which was really excellent. John Peel used to play it a lot but I've no idea who it was.

Laurie Anderson just made it to the Southern Hemisphere.

Mrs. Lou Reed is the only one who can do this... the idea of someone "covering" this is like someone re-painting a Titian in the style of New York Expressionist... it captures a time in the 80's so completely that it is timeless. I saw her perform this in the 80's and two years ago when she last toured. Holds up.

Now listen to X=X, and then Walking and Falling and then Dark Angel and then go back and listen to Massenet and then come on wit jer bad self.

It's also 24 years old and is meant to be bloody funny, not bloody catchy.

Anderson's been a favorite for many years, even if her performance art style has dated quite a bit.

If you can find her United States Live set for cheap, it's a hoot.

An aside: I've been looking for Peter Gordon's version of "The Day The Devil Come To Getcha," but haven't found it. I can track down the album (already have the Anderson version with Gordon on it), probably, but if anyone has the song, I'd appreciate it. My record, it is scratched.

Just look at this album cover, what the fuck is going on here? Did she just eat a radioactive lemon? Parents, this a clear case for not indulging your kids who have no talent that still want to go to art school.

*shakes head*
