If she doesn't have a tattoo/belly button piercing best leave alone?

Maybe it's the cliques I'm in, the media I'm witnessing, whatever but it seems like the only girls that don't have said body amendments still have band posters on their wall... in their bedroom.... along with stuffed animals... at their parents house... with whom they eat cereal... before they go to school... high school... as students... because they're underage.

I'm not saying the addition of body amendments makes for an easier conversation when the assumption of age is implied. I'm merely pointing out a possible sign of the times.

I think so...

Can we use personality/character traits instead of stereotypical behavior please? I'll throw you a friggin' bone here and assume you're talking about boy band posters. Otherwise, this sounds no different than me in high school except my parents didn't eat cereal. I also had a piercing in my left ear and went to the first two Lollapaloozas. If memory serves correctly, I had the respect of most of my classmates.

I am a girl. I am overage, enough at least (25). I have no tattoos (yet) or belly button piercings (never). I do have a nose piercing and stretched lobes. This does not change my age or maturity. So, no, these sort of body modifications are not always indicative of age. Especially for people like me, who look many years younger than thier actual age. I know a lot of kids who got their first tattoo or body piercing at 14 yrs. of age. I would have never tried this, since even now I get accused of holding a false ID.

i say it's unfair

if you lived in henrico co. then you'd have an issue because 90% of females in high school are given the option of getting a belly button piercing (while they are in high school)

as for me. i'd love to have my nose pierced. it's the only change i want to make to my body.
did my parents say they would take me out of college if i had it done?
yes. *

does that mean i'll be confused for a high schooler for the rest of my (young) life?
hopefully not.

* will i most likely pierce my nose and not come home for a few weeks until i can put in the clear thing? yes.

I don't think he's saying he has a problem with all of these things, just that they go along with the other thing they're concerned about, i.e. that these girls are underage.

It's also a ridiculous generalization. I know like 1 woman with one of those things.

Is any generalization really fair?

If you're asking whether it's a common sign of self expression or rebellion among newly liberated college co-eds (who happen to be of age), I'd have to say yes. Used to work in a piercing shop, and they kept us in business.

Although if a girl underage wants it, she can get pierced or tattooed somewhere.

They get booze and car keys underage too, why should this be any different?

I'm never having kids, certainly not daughters.

I don't have pictures of them.

star on left wrist*
big swirly tribal thing on my back*#
rose and moon on hips
some japanese shit on my rear end (i always forget they're there)
dolphin & lizard in unmentionable areas

I used to have a bunch of piercings, but took those out when an ex-bf said that he didn't like them. Silly me.

* - only tattoos that I like
# - I feel that it is necessary to say that I got this tattoo 11 years ago, before everyone and their mom started getting the cliched lower back tattoo.

Actually, I talk shit about all of these tattoos, but I got each of them for a specific reason. So, I guess its not all bad.

This is a little confusing.

Just some thoughts: I suppose you're not including have ear piercings in this. Some parents get their daughters' ears pierced as babies.

Maybe I'm from a different generation but I didn't get any "mods" till I was 29 (a tattoo). Okay, well I guess I had like 4 piercings in each ear and my hair was bright red or purple from the age of 15. I dunno.

What's your goal here? To try to figure out if a girl is "safe territory", or to observe a cultural phenomena?
