...that I am to wear a tie. And this time, I can't even wear jeans or sneakers. I was told that I will have to wear slacks with shoes with a tucked in shirt and tie. What is this world coming to when you can't dress up like a slob as an employee of a non-profit organization.

Oh well, I'll have to go shopping after work tonight. Anyone want to recommend a nice pair of shoes?

I know. I'm just not a shoe person. All I have in my collection are designer sneakers. I can't stand shoes.

they said we are serious. I said, "i'd rather not."
they said "you have to"

i said, "i'm not going to"
they said, "are you willing to be fired over it"
i said, "yes"

i never was asked to shave again.

well, were you trying to grow a beard or were you just looking lazy? i think employers can see each differently. i've been told to shave because i looked like a bum, but also been encouraged with the beard because i kept it looking good.

If you can get away with them, there's some nice Keens that are sorta dressed up. AND they're ridiculously comfortable.

Some of the Timberland slip-ons are pretty decent (similar in style to the Zappos Tommy Two Tones posted above). Well worth the money.

I'm too lazy to post photos, but that's the direction I've gone on shoes for the past year or two. Casual, but dressed up enough for the upper end of 'business/casual.'

Good luck.

These are a crime against humanity, chris...find a pair of Johnston and Murphy's or Allen Edmunds.

And, don't wear a tie w/o a jacket its so NASA/middle manager...next step is a cell phone belt clip.

Those are awful aren't they. That's good advice from GAR...or look for a nice pair of Italian soft leather shoes. I have a couple of pairs of Bruno Magli's that are super comfortable and nice looking. I've bought 4 pairs of shoes in the last month and I swear I don't have the ghey.

Borns or birkenstock dress shoes.

But get dress shoes, whether they slip on or lace up. Don't get fancy shmancy sneakers. Good old black shoes, they can still look slick without looking nancy.

Cause even though you're a butt pirate and a dick smuggler, i've met you in person and you're not a nancy.

Treat the whole thing as a challenge, and flip it in your mind to being your choice. Once it's your choice, you'll have fun, and once you get some professional gear that you enjoy, you might be surprised at how you feel about yourself and your work.
