Hey I need to know where to stay next month, I want to be close to bars and some music (esp.July 5th) Im thinking of staying at the Jupiter or something along these lines, then again, I could do a motel 6 if it was right by the bars. I want to try to keep the room cheap ($60-90) so I can drink and eat well. Suggestions? Where's the best place to research shows/venues? I'll be into getting together on the 5th, btw. That's the only night i know I'm free.
Doing this early, since I blew it in LA

jupiter is right next to Doug Fir (venue) and close to downtown and a few other venues like Berbati's and Dante's and Roseland. it is pretty spartan but fairly hip I guess.

i have heard good things about the Hotel Lucia downtown on Broadway but it might be a tad out of your range...not sure.

see, when travelling alone, I really don;t care much about the room, I only will go there to pass out, so cheap is better, in room safe is nice, however....

that's where i stayed when i went to portland christmas 2004... really nice hotel and it actually wasn't that expensive. there was an awesome sushi restaurant within walking distance and we were able to get to/from the bars i wanted to hit up without a problem.

i'd recommend it.

I've heard the Jupiter can be a bit sterile, but if you don't care, it'd be kind of a hip place to stay.

I've seen this place advertised around town, and it looks kinda funky and reasonably priced. It's also in a very trendy part of town.

There's also Kennedy School, which is a McMenamin's property. Again, sparse accommodations, but probably reasonably priced.

Sometimes Kimpton will run specials on their hotels (Hotel Vintage Plaza and 5th Avenue Suites), so you should check out their web page.
