...is that it's too darn short!

Broken Boy Soldiers is, by far, my top CD of 2006 so far. There isn't a bad note on this disk IMHO. It's just solid rock from start to finish.

I don't have any White Stripes CDs so I can't do a comparison for you. But I can say that nothing I ever heard by The White Stripes made me want to buy a CD. The first single off of this disk made me run out and buy it, and I wasn't disappointed. It's a bit of an ecclectic collection of sounds. There are songs on here that remind me of Sabbath, Bowie, Zappa, and even a blues track.

The ironic thing (IMO anyway) is that I hear so many other influences in this music and one of the lines in the title track is, "I'm done ripping myself off". I'm sure that some could/would argue that this CD rips off a lot of other people...better than ripping yourself off I guess.

The bottom line is that this is an excellent disk.

Anyone else listening to this one?

I like it. It's very solid but I don't think it's great. Just very good.

I think it's solid, but nothing more. It's a little too 'safe' for me.

It's definitely Top 5 for me, I've got it up next on my listening pile. But I actually think the length is perfect, there's no bloat or throwaways on it. Truthfully, I like this better than a few White Stripes cds. I've definitely listened to this more than White Blood Cells by this point.

I am pretty sure you should pop your YSI cherry and upload this album. Thanks.

I borrowed it from a friend last week and...
I liked it a lot.
Pretty much, just a solid frikkin' rock n' roll album.
Jack White has pretty much done no wrong (musically) in my book... at least not that I've heard yet.

Solid.

I've listened to the album twice since buying it Saturday night. I'm not blown away by it, but I'm going to keep listening to it until I love it. I'm very patient when it comes to these boys.

Someday there'll be a Billy Corgan collaboration and you'll have your "yet."

Oh no.
The only thing Billy has done right (by me) is Gish. That's right... I don't even like perrenial board favorite Siamese Dream.

I listened to it last night and liked it more than I thought I would.

It would be better with more Brendan, less Jack.

That's why I've got One Mississippi, Well Fed Boy, and Lapalco on deck.

I do like that single though. Give me an album of that quality, and it'd be stupid good.

I've only heard "Steady As She Goes". Good song.

Still debating buying this.

Hiya Stoney! Well at least you posted a response this time.

This was my litmus test. After only one measley response at the other place. I thought I'd use this post to test the waters here. The water's loverly.

If nobody posts this, I'll take care of it later on. You should really hear it.

I thought the only problem with it was that it is boring and derivative. Im the biggest BB fan and I actually really like Jack White's stuff, so I was very psyched about this album. About 4 listens and Im already pretty bored with it, but its obviously good fun rock and roll, I would just hate to see a new BB album or new White Stripes album get pushed back due to the success of the Raconteurs. Most of this record just doesnt hold up to their other recordings.

I won't have access to it until tonight, so if you want to jump ahead D, go for it. If not, I'll gladly up it later on.

I didn't post a response in the other place, but now you know I read your post, right FA? :D

I haven't heard the album and don't know much about it, so I didn't know how to respond. But I read all posts like this (at the other place anyway; around here, it moves much faster so I tend to miss threads sometimes) to see people's opinions on albums (unless it's debating which version of DSOTM sounds the best or something), so please keep posting like this!

Well it is good to know that you read my posts. But would a pity response have killed you?

I was going to write that "Level" is my favorite track, but someone beat me to it. ;)
