I used to be a huge Eric Clapton fan back in H.S.
However, that was in the midst of his major decline, he had not yet hit rock-bottom, artistically, and I was too young and into the guitar thing to really tell the difference anyway.

So, Today Cary picked out my CDs and one of them is Disc 2 from the Crossroads box set. Listening now and REALLY enjoying it. I'm a little surprised, but it kinda reminds me why I liked him to start with.

Sure, Disc 2 is easily the stronges of the set, with cuts from Cream, Blind Faith, his first solo record, and Derek & the Dominoes. But, for a guy I dismissed years ago as a hack who was coasting on reputation more than anything elso for most of his career, this is a damn good listen.

Never will I sell another CD and it's situations like this that remind me why that is a good decision!

Awesome, Todd.

I'm in the process of ripping my entire collection, and it's bringing back a LOT of memories.

I've regretted selling every single CD I've ever sold at some point or other.

So now I don't even think about selling.

Strangely enough I was doing the same thing last night. I had picked out my old Crossroads boxset and actually had Disc 2 in my hands to play at work today, however I decided against it.

I'm inspired to re-listen to it again. This is the reason why I also don't ever get rid of my cds. Aging seems to make me hear things I never heard or appreciated when I was 16.

I'm anti-selling to a large degree, but there's always a few things on my shelf that I've never listened to more than once, if all of the way through. Sometimes it's a dud. I almost never get rid of anything I still have after robberies and movings that I now feel is behind me, because taking that nostalgic trip can be fun.

I rarely sell my CDs anymore. It probably has to do with the fact that I finally know my taste well enough where every CD I buy is guaranteed to be a keeper. And trust me, I used to sell a lot of CDs to used record shops back in high school when I first got into music and tried to buy "everything."

I know, I know. I disappeared for awhile only to find that we had a new home.

When?
Why?
Who?(instigated this new hangout)

Nice digs though

Not too long ago I sold about 150 discs I will never miss, but from now on, I don't think I'll be able to sell any.

Clapton never wrote a good song after 1970, and most of the good material on the second disc of crossroads he didn't write, if memory serves. I just have so little respect for him because I think his playing is pedestrian and his songwriting essentially sucks, with a couple of exceptions.

No. He did write the good stuff on Disc 2, so you're wrong there. But it all came out in 1970 or before - so you're right there.

There were a couple of cd's I regretted selling, but when it comes to 10 cd's I haven't listened to in quite some time for gas or lunch money when times are tough, then yeah....

since litigation vs p2p will become worse under 4 more tears, i'm going to slowly move away from slsk (maybe doing wasted if i can ever make it work) and buy all cds via ebay/half/used-stores and sell back all those that place in the "lower quarter". MP3s are all i want, and those are still pretty expensive, save for bleep.com.

if i ever lose my MP3s, i'll buy the cd back used & sell the damn thing again, or just say "screw it" if my opinion fell enough. Or maybe by then, mp3's will be replaced by something else.

cd's are so last century. i just need a viable economic model for mp3s.

I've only sold LP's once (it's was back in the day when vinyl ruled the earth). I found it to be such a debilitating experience I have never sold anything since. An album probably cost about £6 or £7 back then and the guy went through them all saying "I'll give you 50p for that, 50p for that". I'm thinking I bought that a couple of weeks ago and it cost me £7 and now some surly guy in a stained vest is offering me 50p for it! Even worse than that is the pile of records he pushes to the side ("take these ones back, I don't want any of them") Talk about rejection!

Anyway, I'll never sell anything again. Maybe overtime I'll have a huge library of music.

SEMI-RELEVENT RECORD COLLECTION NEWS
Apparently the British Museaum has offered £1million pounds to buy John Peel's record collection. 26,000 LP's, 40,000 7" singles and a further 40,000 CD's. How cool would it be to have a collection that big? I can think of nothing better.

I think the British Museum is the most appropriate place for it as well.

i'm presently ripping a lot of old stuff as well and i'm discovering that i can't stand a lot of stuff that i used to listen to.

and i sell things, but i always rip it or make a copy for myself first. i'm definitely glad i get rid of some stuff because i get money and space for new stuff.

SELLERS UNITE!!!

I never sell CDs for this reason...who knows when you'll like it? If anything, it's just another CD you have. And that can't really be too much of a bad thing.
