While we're venting...

I just received an email from some woman who I vaguely remember to be a friend of my Mom's, commenting on my pictures from Spain and asking where I went, etc?

WTF?

I forwarded a couple of pics to my family: my Mom, step-Dad & 3 siblings---that was all. Guess my Mom took it upon herself to "broadcast" my pic to all her friends. I didn't even take the pics---Senor Six did.

Why do parents do this sort of thing? I'm frickin' 30 years old. Does it never end?

Shouldda sent the nekkid ones.

No, unfortunately it doesn't. I still get updates on people I barely knew from highschool only because my parents STILL live in the same town. It usually goes something like this:

Mom: Do you remember Mary Jo Shadle?
Dana: Yeah, Mom, I remember her.
Mom: Did you know that she just had her third child, and she's not even married?
Dana: No, Mom, and besides why would I care? We weren't even friends in school.
Mom: Well, I just thought you'd be interested in knowing since you two grew up together.
(dana shrugs and rolls her eyes, or if information was given over the phone, rolls eyes and sighs as she covers the mouthpiece).

Some parents just live in a little insulated bubble world, so when something amazing like Spain pictures come rolling into their inbox, they can't help but be excited and send out to everyone to brag about their worldly kid. ;)

<---Feels kinda bad now. Rightly so.

I usually get to her about the boyfriend of the daughter of one of my Mom's old friends from High School whom I met once when I was 5.

Sigh. I do love her though. Sigh.

Yes, I realized that when I posted. I promise I'll post some pics here soon, (clothed).

I took all of mine with a "real" camera & therefore need to scan them first.

this sounds exactly like my mother-in-law. she goes as far as to send the local newspaper clippings of wedding announcements, etc of people my wife went to school with (and hasn't talked to in 15 years).

I know. You didn't really make me feel bad. I just meant that, yah I should remember that it's exciting for her to have her kid go to Spain, etc.

Then of course there's the referring to the long list of your "friends" who are marrieds or have kids, (emphasizing how you're not), when really they are people you haven't talk to since High School.

When I'm at work, my mother will call to tell me the checkout girl at the grocery store liked her jacket. And such things.

Heh, at least I got the married part down. Still get the roundabout passive-aggressive kid remark every now and then. I also get the passive-aggressive "look how well everyone is doing here and they didn't move all the way across the country."

I don't deny my upbringing or hate Georgia, but it's just not the place for me anymore. For someone like my Mom who has NEVER lived anywhere else, she'll never understand this.

this reminds me of my mother, except it's usually about someone in her extended family who i've met once. the best is when she asks me to guess who either just had a baby or got married. "uh... i have no idea."

be nice.
mom's rule.

if you wipe somebody's ass for two years you deserve the right to inanely brag about your kids and annoy them with trivial bullshit once in a while
