In a move reminiscent of the Fox reality show Rock Star: INXS, seminal L.A. punk band The Germs are replacing their dead singer and going on tour. Now, let's forget for a moment that Darby Crash kind of was The Germs and the band might as well not exist without him, because that's not even the weird part. As Punknews reports, the really strange thing is that Shane West, the guy taking Crash's place, is... an actor slated to play the singer in an upcoming biopic!
Now, I know it sounded like I was against this at first, but I'm feeling more confident after some research on this Shane West guy. He might even be an improvement over Darby Crash, who was, I hate to say it, a little messy and weird-looking, as those crazy punk rockers tended to be! Not only does he have some super-intense cheekbones, but he played Tom Sawyer in The League of Gentlemen! Roles in two of my favorite pre-teen TV shows, Boy Meets World and California Dreams may explain why his headshot looks like it was taken by the photographer for Teen Beat magazine. I would like to think that had Darby Crash met this guy, he would have developed a little crush on him which would have resulted in the kind of identity crisis that might occur after falling in love with someone who's portraying you in a movie.
All of the other original band members, with cool names like Pat Smear, Lorna Doom and Don Bolles, are participating in the tour, so if you're for some reason already planning to go to Warped Tour and want to see that guy who toured with Nirvana for a while, hey man, go for it!
