Have a 2-1 lead on Washington, at Washington, and they let the starting pitcher (Wang) bat in the ninth with one out, thereby choosing to leave him in for the ninth, rather than bring in the greatest closer in the history of the game (Rivera). Wang strikes out and then goes out and surrenders a two run homer to Ryan Zimmerman to lose the game three batters later.
My question is: has Jow Torre just lost the edge? Is there ever a more slam-dunk situation in all of pro sports? I know Rivera blew a save last night but still, no one has a shorter memory than Rivera and there is likely no one you would rather have on the hill with a one run lead in the ninth.
