I'd read about him of course... but I don't think I'd ever heard him. Watched the Bonnaroo feed and saw him with the jam kids. I'd read of him as a Hassidic rapper/beat box/hip hop/reggae artist... but in seeing and listening to his good band... it's more dub, and I hear a lot of west African in the music. I was sorta blown away by the first song... three songs later I'd had more than enough. Fun to see the sweaty hairy hippie jam kids knowing all the lyrics.. suppose it's no different that tapping into Rastafari... without the ganga. I mean Zion is Zion. Don't think I've ever heard him discussed on Obner.

I tried to find somebody of that sort that I could like that nobody else did - because everybody would adopt his group, and his group would be _it_; someone weird like Captain Beefheart. It's no different now - people trying to outdo ! each other in extremes. There are people who like X, and there are people who say X are wimps; they like Black Flag.

He's actually been discussed a few times on here. The consesus, from what I remember is that he is novelty because the music isn't that great. It's just that people see him and say, "hey look at that jewish guy doing reggae". His songs are ok and borderline sub-par, in my opinion. But, I will say it's a lot better than a lot of crap out there.

I saw him on one of the late shows and could not find one thing I liked about him except his outfit/ image. Other than that, my ears started bleeding.

i dont' really like him, but he's not snow.
his version of reggae is pretty true to the sound he's going for. He doesn't have the gift of melody the way the reggae greats do.

had i heard it and not known who i was listening to wouldn't have guessed he was some white kid from the suburbs.

Agreed. His problem is no memorable tunefulness. This is not Peter Tosh.
