I am not the biggest fan - but i know some of you are

According to MTV, Bright Eyes is currently wrapping up work on their next Saddle Creek album.

After a busy year which included political events, diversity awards and an indie-only live album, the frontman Conor Oberst is promising a different lyrical focus for the new album:

I don't think there's going to be any more overtly political stuff," Oberst said. "I mean, obviously, we need to have some kind of change in the mid-term elections and in the next presidential election, but when I sing the songs now, it's like shooting fish in a barrel. It's too easy.
Everyone knows we have an incompetent administration," he continued. "Back in 2003, 2004, it was different. The idea of going out now and hitting people over the head with it doesn't appeal to me [because] I feel that people are coming around."

My brother said he played alot of new stuff at his free show in Omaha last weekend. I think he is avoiding being overly political due to his recent home purchase and the fact he is starting to make a crap ton of money. I know that no one outside the Omaha area really cares where he lives or what he does with his money, but I think he was hurt by the backlash against his notoriety and doesn't want to lose his identity which is linked to Nebraska. In the long run, his audience is going to be people in our age bracket who like his folky sort of tunes rather than 15yr old emo girls who find him cute, and most people our age don't want to be lectured about politics by a sloppy drunk jackass. I don't know if he has stopped doing coke and cut back on the drinking, but I think he has a little more common sense and realizes he has made a complete ass of himself on more than a few occassions.

I wish he was promising a different vocal focus. :)

His singing truly is bad, but 'Old Soul Song' is one of my favs of recent years...hell, that whole album is really good for what it is.
