Why announce something like that when there are future tour dates available. (to drum up some press?) It seems like it makes it weird to play together, or weird to see them.

edit: and I hated The Woods.

i'm sure it's an amicable split. i think they'd cancel the remaining shows if it weren't.

That sucks.

They are the first (and only) all-female band I have ever heard guys rave about without mentioning their gender. Serious.

Damn that does suck.

I always thought their albums were hit and miss, good to very good but damn if they didn't smoke live.

I actually got to see them in NYC the night of the Iraq War protests before the war started at Roseland Ballroom. Ridiculous show.

They spouted so much venom about the war and played the most shredding version of "Fortunate Son" I've ever heard.

A lot of the people who don't like em tend to comment on her vocals but I think she wails.

Yeah, I'm not too into the vocals.

Fuck, that ain't good news today. I really like(d) that band. Hot Rocks is one of my all time favourites. At least they went out on a good note.

Luscious Jackson, OOIOO, The Organ, Shonen Knife, and early Rasputina are all better than Sleater-Kinney IMO.

EDIT: This is meant to depict a yawn of indifference, and in no way intended to suggest the backstage practices of the soon-to-be-defunct band in question. I hope that clears things up. I neither love nor hate S-K. Their music simply provides me with mild-to-moderate unjoyment, primarily due to the banshee-like wailing. I actually quite like that song "Oh!' found on the otherwise unjoyable One Beat.

I like how every forum I've been to has this story posted, but they all found a different site that it was posted on so it looks like they didn't hear about it on Pitchfork Media.

they were great. it's a shame, but yeah they lasted longer than most bands tend to and with a much better catalogue.

agreed. though don't think mentioning their gender is a slight on their music as much as a sidenote. It's not the norm, therefore it will be mentioned. Just like how people use terms like "frat rock" when describing pearl jam "pussified" when describing belle & sebastian. I mean, people always point out what the singer sounds like, and damned if pointing out the gender doesn't help clear that up.

plus, they look so cute when they try to play those instruments! kidding.
