Is this thread about sex and earning one's red wings? Cuz I have no idea who Stevie Y is. I used to know a REALLY hot guy named "Stevie" with these amazing green eyes...he made incredible cocktails.

Steve Yzerman... the Red Wings' captain and one hell of a hockey player.

Ha - the image was displaying fine on my screen, and I thought your comment was a "keep your stick on the ice" kind of joke.

I get it now.

He's a hockey player. One of the best, and a really nice guy as well.

He's also a big reason this lifetime Chicago Blackhawks fan (since the time of Bobby Hull, Stan Mikita, and Tony Esposito) does the unthinkable... and root for the Wings.

If the Hawks are gonna keep sucking like this I might as well be a Red Wings fan. Plus, their owner won't even allow their games to be televised. Bastard.

If anyone has a good excuse to switch, it's B-hawk fans.

Yzerman was amazing. Those years he put up big numbers he showed he was as talented as almost anyone in his generation & then when he reinvented himself as a solid 2 way guy it paidoff with multiple Cups. Great player, Great leader. I'd imagine the Wings will carve some sort of job for him.

Truly one of the best. Not just as a player, but as a person. Think about it. 23 years with the same team and you never heard a bad thing about him. No legal run ins, no contract holdouts (despite the fact that for many of those seasons HE WAS THE TEAM) and no big problems with teammates or coaches. The guy just came to work each day, played his heart out and did the damn thing.

In '95 (my junior yr of HS) my dad got us tix for every home playoff game, and that was the year they went to the finals and got swept by the Devils. That meant a lot of games and after a few weeks we knew Joe Louis Arena by heart and had befriended a lot of the regulars around us for each game. My dad also got me an Yzerman jersey that I still have. Great memories of watching him and the Russian Army line play back in the day.
