so I just interviewed w/ 2 sets of 2 people today (for the same job) and I'm home and am going to send a thank you note, as I do after every interview. Think it's ok that I just send the same note to each person, of course changing the name? Or should I tailor it? I highly doubt that they are going to get together "OOOH look what Ryan sent us! let's compare!!" and it was essentially the same interview both times. i think it's more the fact that I send a note more than anything. whatcha think.

oh, and yes, there may very well be another 17-page drunk 'I got a new job' thread on the horizon.

This is really what matters most.

I would include one or two more differences, but having the same general format should be fine.

<--- never recalled sending "thank you" notes for interviews, but then again hasn't interviewed in seven years

I recently did the same...

it can be relatively the same note. I think it is more of a nice gesture then a real neccessity. Just a good way to keep your name in these peoples minds..

if possible, alter each one a little bit....If possible, throw in a reference to a memorable part of the interview (if there is one)... a laugh you shared, or something like that...

other than that, its a generic nice gesture and doesnt need to be completely different than the other, IMO.

Damn.
Didn't you just get a job?

I usually write one letter and then edit the second one, adding and deleting bits of information that is pertinent for each individual person. But the second is usually based on the first, anyway. It's always better to err on the side of more personal. Makes a better impression.

see i think the same thing. I don't think they're really going to care if it's basically the same note, as long it's something.

yes sirs. and I realized that it's not exactly what I had expected. so a new opportunity came up which actually uses elements that I spent 4 years and shitloads of money in college for. fancy that.

Go with a similar theme, but modified. If you can reference anything from the interview that gained you ground, so much the better.

Good luck!

i didn't send any of these on my latest job search run, that ended a couple weeks ago. is this anywhere near a necessity? is it a truer statement to say "not sending one hurt me in the future" or "sending one helps in the future"?

i think it's a necessity. it shows that you're interested, and it's not that hard whipping one up. i think they care that something was sent rather than focusing on the actual contents of the letter, regardless if I slipped a $20 in it or not.

Thank You notes to interviewers! I've heard it all now.

Why don't you just go all the way down the path of humiliation and actually kiss their ass?

If I go to an interview they should thank me for turning up!

Yes, that's what all the job-search-advice people tell you nowadays.

Robotboy - If it's any consolation, I usually send notes and try to make them a tiny bit different, but then again I didn't send any note at all after my most recent job interview, and this past Monday they gave me the job. So there you go.

Actually, I suppose that should be accompanied by the official "I Got a Job!!" celebratory pic:

And I would have started work yesterday except:

I'm not ready for Depends yet, but I'll admit to being of a certain age where the...quality...of my...um...by-products...is not always what it used to be, and all I can say is...

Hooray for Cottonelle Fresh Pre-Moistened Flushable Wipes!

Perhaps you and Dunwoody Dude should start a recipe exchange.

I hate it when people I interview send me thank-you notes. Most of my corporate peers agree.
