Alrightie, Steve, I'm seeking your counsel because I know you're a huge girl band / nostalgia type fan.

Annette Funicello, a la Beach Blanket Bingo era -- d'ya have any recommendations? I love "Pineapple Princess" if that gives you an idea what I'm looking for.

bikini beach party is one of her hits but there's nothing exactly like pineapple princess. luau cha cha cha is good but it's a cha cha. there's a song of hers called hawaaiiannete (also italianette) that's fun but still not as good as p. princess.

one of my faves of hers is tell me who's the girl but it's slower. i think you picked one of the best after b b party.

I like to annoy my friends with "Pineapple Princess". I mean, seriously, how can you be annoyed with lyrics like these?

"Pineapple princess", he calls me pineapple princess all day
As he plays his ukulele on the hill above the bay
"Pineapple princess, I love you, you're the sweetest girl I've seen"
"Some day we're gonna marry and you'll be my pineapple queen"

I wish I could fit into a coconut bikini bra.

I'm gonna have to check out "Hawaiianette" and "Tell Me Who's the Girl".

You know, I've never had the guts to pick up an Annette collection because I thought it would be too cheesy even for me. Though given how much I think Lesley Gore's "Sunshine, Lollipops and Rainbows" is unadulterated genius, Annette's cheese should be a breeze.

(No Connie Francis either. Really, I should be shot.)

WHAT?! No Connie Francis? I remember my mom playing her all the time. I'm quite surprised you don't own any of her stuff.

And, c'mon...Annette! One of the OG Musketeers! I've long been a sucker for Annette and Frankie movies. Don't get me started on Gidget and Moondoggie. KAHUNA!

Is the Pineapple Queen related to the Kielbasa Queen?

Annette is to Lesley Gore
as The Monkees are to the Beatles

No comparison.

Interesing who this thread has smoked out....

Like saying you like coca cola more than fine wine. it's possible, but is not something one should acknowledge in cyber public.

In the spirit of the thread.... it's not you, it's the dirt I hate Christina.

Add me to the pro-Monkee contingent. I'm certainly not saying they were better than The Beatles, but I'm probably more inclined to get a hankerin' to hear some Monkees before I do some Beatles...just sayin'.

We were the last romantics - chose for theme
Traditional sanctity and loveliness;
Whatever's written in what poets name
The book of the people; whatever most can bless
The mind of man or elevate a rhyme;
But all is changed, that high horse riderless,
Though mounted in that saddle Homer rode
Where the swan drifts upon a darkening flood.

....I'm telling you, a darkening flood.

I will admit to being generally uncultured when it comes to fine arts and literature. The only two poems I can recite from memory are "The Pointy Birds" by M. Hfuhruhurr and "It's Easy to Grin" by Elihu Smails.

I think it would be nice if we also had an "unimpressed cat" emoticon.
