Texas-based band And You Will Know Us By the Trail of Dead have wrapped up work on their next full length and follow up to 2005's Worlds Apart.

The album is as-yet untitled and is expected on October 3rd. The band was disappointed with the critical lashing the album took, with frontman Conrad Keely telling Billboard:

I put everything I had into that record, and recording it was a miserable ordeal. After its reception I was pretty much ready to retire from music and find another career, convinced that I wanted nothing more to do with making music for anyone. But when we started this new album, which was meant to be an EP, I had a different attitude. Mainly, I tried not to care at all, and approach it with a more 'I don't give a fuck' outlook.
The band enlisted the help of friends to diversify the sound of the record, including contributions from the Dresden Dolls' Amanda Palmer.

In anticipation of the release, the band will be headed out this Fall with the Blood Brothers.

'Madonna' is number 2 on my this decade list.

'Sources, Code & Tags' is number 37.

I've listened to 'Worlds Apart' exactly once because it's so shite.

Worlds Apart was better upon re-examination.

Madonna is one hell of a record there are at least 5 tracks from that record that will be in my will to be played at my funeral.

Worlds Apart actually grew on me many months after it was released. this was shocking to me because i really, really thought it was shit when i first got it. in fact, i have no idea why i even gave it another chance months later. and all that really happened is that now i've admitted that i like a couple of tracks, and that this record is trying to the same thing as source tag and codes, only less well, but hardly in an unforgivable way.

Worlds Apart sounded like a shitty attempt at trying to create a modern rock radio format record. Did Interscope have something to do with that?

I'm willing to give the guys another chance since Source, Tags & Codes was such a killer album.

Based on this thread, I should give Worlds Apart another shot. Right now I'm in the Darrin camp. Still very anxious to hear what they do next.

yeah, world's apart definitely grew on me. well worth another listen to those of you who dismissed it quickly.

definitely looking forward to this one, and hopefully they'll leave the little kids and bird noises off this time.

i think the title track and 'and the rest will follow' alone are 2 perfectly valid reasons to revisit this album if anyone's on the fence about it.

'worlds apart' just has that great rocking swagger/swing that i think lots of bands have tried to get but havent captured, and 'and the rest will follow' just blazes with those 2 drum tracks.
i also think both lyrically are pretty strong, and while they're topical in a way that is sometimes a little obvious, i think they still do a pretty good job of not being 'plain' about it.

Too bad they played the only good song from the album.
