I live in one of the best cities in the nation to raise children, so you know they ain't dropping Spank Rock followed by "let's make love and listen to death from above" at the bars/clubs. Do you ever get dragged out to bars where you know the music is god awful and just don't enjoy yourself due to what is played? I just did. Maybe I need to just loosen up? I just can't get into music I fucking dispise of and then expected to dance to. Thoughts??

No no no no...I completely agree with you, Dave. Oh sure, you might make fun of it for awhile, but later you realize that it's drilling into your brain. It's become a slow torturous death, one which you can't escape. And your brain begins to fight with itself...friends..music...friends...music...WHICH DO I CHOOSE?!

Ahhh, there's the key. Being drunk! Intoxication allows me to listen to crap music too. Frankly, I'll tune it out and laugh louder if I'm hangin' with ma friends.

If cookie cutter bars ruin my night, it's generally not about the music.

Jimmy's? The Lantern? Another bar popular with North Central College students?

Doesn't bother me at bars because they alcohol at bars.

Places like Pizza Hut, where's there's obese teenagers having birthday parties and they put Shania on the jukebox and go omigod, I frickin' luv this song and dance all jello-vat wobbly rotund-retarded round the salad bar, yeah that bugs me a bit.

I'm sorta with Sketch, although it's usually a mix of factors. The music is definitely one, the clientele is sure to be the most important, and honestly, the friends that would take me to that kind of bar are usually not the ones I have the most in common with.

If I hate the music it gets a little hard to enjoy myself. If I simply don't like it it's not sure a big deal. One thing's fer certain: if I don't like it, I ain't gonna dance to it.

Wait. There's a complaint here about having to take time out to go with friends at what apparently is a shitty bar with some shitty music playing? There is an implied choice here, that normally you could go elsewhere and be inundated by whatever hip music you could possibly want, but you took the hit and went?

Cry me a fucking river and stop thinking about something so trite. It's a night out and you actually can go elsewhere anytime you want. Be thankful for that.

I would like cookies cut for me at bars. Fresh cookies could be a good draw.

I doubt DMB has other choices in Naperville. But either way, why be such a dick about it? Yeah, sometimes I'll go to a shitty shitty bar because that's where some friends are going, because I want to see my friends. Sometimes, the godawful atmosphere isn't enough to bother me, sometimes it is. I'm sure you can rise above "Wanted Dead or Alive" in a zenlike state as long as you're with a chum, but we're not all so lucky. Sometimes when I'm surrounded by popped collars and Nelly is playing too loudly for me to hear the conversation, I have a hard time having fun. That makes me a bad friend?

Eh, I didn't mean it to sound that harsh. I guess I just don't give a fuck if I get the chance to hang out with some friends that actual music would impinge on the ability to enjoy myself. Sorry, but I still think it is a trite complaint.

All my friends like dive bars anyway so it's not too much of a problem cause you find great country and swamp pop records on those jukeboxes. But it would all depend on how crappy the music was. Some stuff I can handle, some would make me want to leave.

IF I get a night out, it's gonna take a lot more than crappy music to ruin it.
I don't get out much, so I think I appreciate just hanging out more than most of you young'uns.

Nelly would probably a welcome change round here. I was at some bar last night with the worst DJ I have ever heard, but I was hanging out with Femgar and some of her clients who were buying massive rounds of drinks. Had a great time.

Now, at the bar closest to me, where they have a LOUD, off-key country cover bad, it can be a little tedious.
