haha

The only reason I said that, is because Shelley's departure from the board seemed to have coincided time-wise with Steinem's departure from the planet. BJW would have been a logical choice to assume the Ms./NOW mantle, no?

I think she's with us yet. I did come closer than I would like to being blown up by a nutty anti-choicer, but most of the absence was due to crippling tendonitis in my hands, and then I was out of town for a while. Hands still not great, limited recreational net use.

Highlights:
Still not fired,
New house cool,
Cat prefers others to me but I'm the person so tough luck,
See Japan if feasible,
Trotskyites get lonesome out there, bless 'em
Isobel Campbell/Mark Lanegan album excellent
Ditto Ray La Montagne
Hell, it's not very cool but the Paul Simon isn't terrible either.

Cotton, I think you'd better share with the class.

House: Basement held through like 8 inches of rain in 24 hours. Who knew that little tiny drain was so powerful?

Work buddy is handing down their giant, whole-floor AC, which may move me up in the cat's estimation.

Repointing my brick porch is more work than I'm up for. Must find a pro.

High ceilings are great, but I need a bigger stepladder if I don't want to live in an ever-dimmer world.

The jackass who thought they'd fix the leak under the garage doors by cementing them shut needs to answer to me. Maybe they just used it as a workshop, but I have a tiny honda that needs that space.

Pawn shops are a good place to find good ladders. Just set it up real quick and check the sturdiness. Since you probly weigh 98 lbs. you dont need anything too heavy duty.

May have to rent a small jackhammer to deal with that but make sure and consider the why of the previous owner cementing them shut:

Was the water coming back into the garage? Check your gutters and downspouts for obstructions and consider extending the downspouts away from the house if they are not moving the water away fast enough. I found this one out the hard way.

it's not as interesting as it sounds. i was dating a girl in high school whose best friend was dating Ben Harper's drummer. They went on tour for a bit, at one show she met GS, who swept her away to go work for her. Never saw her again, though she did send me a card at graduation.

Turns out she's still alive, after all. Sorry for the mixup. Why did I think she had died?

Anyway, I'm definitely glad BJW is back. Good to see you, Shel!

She got married at sixty-seven -- I think that's the age -- which, given her theory, is as good as dying.

Then again, DAT Fish needed DAT Bicycle.

It's very cool and a great friggin' album. I dig it a lot. A LOT.

The only place it's cool to dismiss this album is here and other places like this board. Obner: you know, where being jaded and acting liked you've had to walk around all day like you had to pinch off the last loaf you were squeezing out, and you've had to keep tucking it back up in there as it tries to escape, is the best way to show that you're cool and "with it," rather than just actually enjoying really good albums. Because, you know, that Liars album of noise fucking blows away the Paul Simon album.

I think they both suck. You might consider a switch to decaf.

i still haven't heard it, but yeah, i wasn't impressed with that Liars album.

I still might be the only proponent of Songs From the Capeman, though, so I refuse to get any shit for dumping on Paul Simon.

Like I said, outside of this forum and any other forum where, basically, the Liars are actually considered listenable, you'll see a lot of people love Surprise.

You'll also see that N*SYNC holds the opening week sales record. "Surprise" sounds to me like Graceland with some ill-fitting electronic tweaks and even sappier lyrics... but I'm not going to say it's objectively bad, anymore than the fact that your mom doesn't like the Liars album can make it "unlistenable." Sorry obner isn't a receptive audience to over the hill folk-pop, but wtf did you expect?
