Unfortunately I usually end up picking the last option. I've missed a lot of shows I've wanted to see simply because I hate going by myself and I can't successfully convince anyone to go.

Even with a free ticket to the Weakerthans show a year or two back, I had to beg my sick friend to get out of bed to go since nobody else wanted to.

cruise solo. why miss out because you have no one to go with? i had to learn to get over that... i was tired of missing shows because i had no one to go with, or because my friends lag.

and then i found that when i do cruise solo, i end up running into people i know or end up meeting more people.

What Puma said. I'm pretty damn shy. When I was single I often had to make this kind of decision. You will most likely run into people you know, at least to just say hi.

I actually grew to like it. I'm small and without anyone else with me I could easily squeeze my way into the "sweet spot" of the room. It's nice too to just really enjoy the show---no dealing with someone talking to you at your favorite part of a song.

Do it.

i sometimes even ditch certainl ppl (who go to the same show) just in case their company makes it a less pleasurable experience

i mean you are there for the music, mostly

I'm not a very outgoing person (don't consider myself shy, just quiet), and I've never given it a second thought about going to shows alone. Sometimes I feel a little awkward, but I'd rather that then missing a good performance.

In fact, I'd say 75% of the shows I go to are alone. It's either alone or a band my girlfriend wants to see.

why skip it? you get to stand where you want to and leave when you want to. and then, if it's the best show ever, you brag.

the only time it's not fun is when it's, like, a half-hour or more between sets.

Wow. Reading this just made me realize how rare it is for this to actually be the case. I'd say for a large percentage of people at shows this isn't true. They go for the social aspect. Just made me realize how, as much as we get "NML" on here, we really are a music lover's board.

that is the time when i'm either a) at the bar or b) smoking a cigarette.

i've also learned to ditch certain people in going to shows with - i can't stand being late everywhere or having them whine all night because they don't like the band.

Definitely go.

And what's more, during a break, scope out someone else who's there solo and talk to him/her. Maybe you hit it off, and then you've got a new girl/boyfriend or a friend to go to shows with. And if you don't hit it off, well, you're no worse off for trying. This is the kind of thing that seems a lot worse than it actually is.

Think about it. It could change your life.

Sorry, but missing shows because you don't have someone to go with sounds like a adolescent problem. Even if you do go with someone, it's not like you actually talk to them over the music, and if you do, you're a fucking nuisance to those of us who actually go for the band and not for socializing.

Same goes for the movies.

In short, go to the fucking show you pansy. :pimp:

if you go to alot of shows, you end up seeing and eventaully meeting the same people that always go. i've gotten used to it, because i run into the "regulars". i'll usually stand next to them.

it also helps in between sets that i have my camera. i just run through my shots, so i don't care if people don't talk to me, cos i'm busy looking at pics.

Which is 95% of the time.

But yeah. The odds of me running into someone I already know are very slim. If I knew anyone who was likely going to the show, I would've already talked to them beforehand

And I'm completely quiet and shy. I would never approach anyone or talk to someone I don't know. So, while I probably would enjoy the set just fine, I'd still end up feeling miserable during the train rides there and back and the waiting between and after sets.

I don't go to the movies alone either and that's even more of a less social atmosphere.

You aren't even driving? Drink some booze to loosen yourself up, and get your ass to the show. There's no reason to even talk to anyone if you don't want to. If you like the band, GOOOOO.

I don't drink either.

I'm a quiet, reclusive, sack of misery.

i don't mind going to the movies by myself. if i go with this one friend, she'll talk throughout the whole film. i think she got the message though during "the devil wears prada" when i shushed her really loud.

Just play with your cell phone the whole time and don't make eye contact with anyone. That way you can pretend people aren't really there.

I voted for go to the show but in reality I hate going to shows by myself. I still do it but it's uncomfortable. Playing with your phone is a good tactic though as it makes it seem like you have friends, another good idea is to bring a camera and pretend like youre a photographer or something. If you have one of those vests for carrying lenses and film you don't even need to actually take pictures.

Besides poker and sex, there's not much that I wouldn't rather do alone.
