So this past weekend there was the National Sand Sculpting Competition at Reveah Beach. I could tell right away that double-tower castle design wasn't going to win any medals... I think I liked Leonardo di Vinci the best, but the roller coaster one was cool too. Apparently they use some glue to hold things together, but otherwise it is just sand, shovels, fingers, and other small tools.

thats pretty cool. I don't think they should be allowed to use glue though.

That's nuts. I used to have a problem building a cube with a turret.

Yeah, what if it had started to rain? I can't imagine how long those must have taken.

I participate in a Sandcastle building contest every year in Long Beach, WA with my wife and some friends (It is actually coming up this next weekend) - We aren't that talented and certainly aren't as good as these people but it is a lot of fun and you'd be suprised what you can do with about 5 hours, a bunch of buckets of water, some plywood forms and a 24*24 plot of sand.

As to Wilked's comments about the people in that competition using glue to hold the sand together, I can tell you that most competitions don't allow it - you can use props, but nothing that helps to support the structure. I obviously can't speak to the competition that he watched, but in most of them it is just sand and a LOT of water holding the sculptures together.

I'll try to post some photos of our sculptures here a little later for those who might be interested, they certainly aren't as impressive as these, but we were pretty proud of them ;)

Can't Disney sue for ripping them off then?

a good question. if the subtle big erect penis was substantially similar to the subtle big erect penis on the cover of the little mermaid, then yes. however, disney cannot copyright the idea of incorporating subtle big erect penises in artwork.

Or perhaps you'd prefer this penis:

...or this naked broad (I KNEW the Rescuers was the best Disney movie):

Sunburnt today...it could be worse though, I could be in an apt with no A/C (wait, I am). Could be worse though, I could be on the 4th floor where heat rises and festers (oh shit, that too). At least I got a hot girlfriend to rub aloe on me....nope....

Their remains one speck of good news, fresh cod coming off the grill in 10 mins :)

Ahhh wilked... the glass is always half full.

Preferably with some rockin' beer.

Although, if it were only half full of some rockin' beer you'd probably not see the positive in that only wishing it were entirely full and...

I have no idea where I'm going with this.

Enjoy the cod.
