Open letter to Steely Dan:

First, you were never a touring band to begin with, and you sure as hell shouldn't be touring 400 years after you stopped not touring to begin with. Second, you are yourselves ripping off one Jeffrey "The Dude" Lebowski in your hash-addled letter. Third, you do not deserve copyright protection for your clever idea of a guy named Dupree who sleeps on couches. Nobody's going "oh man, it's like that guy in the song! I'm totally going to see this Owen Wilson movie!" Hopefully, no one is saying "I'm going to see this movie "at all. Sure, an acknowlegement might be polite, but I hope you understand that attaching the name "Dupree" to a stock vagabond character does not an original idea make. Unoriginal ideas are not afforded copyright protection. Thank you for your understanding.

I am constantly reminded how good the lyrics to Reelin in the Years are, and how crappily played out the tune is.. sigh

If it was a joke, why the fuck make it so long? By the end, I ended up where I started............ not caring.

If it wasn't a joke, why would they write it that way?

And yeah, there's probably some truth to it, but probably not a lot.
