my iTunes plays songs with the same quality of an old AM radio, and i wanna know why. I have excellent speakers and it's the lates version of iTunes and all the rest, and my windows media player plays music perfectly. Does anyone know why my itunes is subpar? help much appreciated

try screwing around with the equalizer for the right settings.

Go to Edit Preferences Importing and up the kbps (I import with a bit rate of 192 kbps in stereo)

i import in stereo at the highest bitrate, so it isnt the actual files that are the problem. My windows media player plays the same files perfectly so it must be iTunes that's to blame. The equalizer isn't it either, because even if i change it, it still sounds really low-fi.

I have the same problem. I listen to CDs exclusively on WMP because iTunes makes them all crackly and shitty. I love the layout, but the sound quality is shit!

Solution 1: uninstall iTunes, clean out the registry, reboot, re-install iTunes.
Solution 2: use Foobar, which sounds better than either of them once you set everything up (see BeeOK's thread RE: CD/MP3 players).
