I could have went either way on the Spoon, MMJ, or Stripes choices. Went stripes for no particular reason.

Ambulance Ltd.'s 'Yoga Means Union' is a pretty kick ass opener.

I went with the White Stripes.

Well I voted for "Dead Leaves...", but if "Farewell Transmission" from Songs: Ohia had made the list, that would have got my vote. A couple others that are worthy of consideration...

Everything In It's Right Place; Radiohead
The Art of Stopping; Wire
Coma Girl; Joe Strummer
Now It's On; Grandaddy
Going Against Your Mind; Built to Spill

Well, I voted White Stripes because it's easily better than the other choices.

When I think of great openers from this decade, these come to mind:

Low - "Sunflower"
Magnolia Electric Co. - "Farewell Transmission"
Radiohead - "Everything in It's Right Place"
The Books - "Enjoy Your Worries, You May Never Have Them Again"
Deerhoof - "Dummy Discards a Heart"
Of Montreal - "Disconnect the Dots"
Mouse on Mars - "Actionist Respoke"
Flaming Lips - "Fight Test"
Animal Collective - "Leaf House"
Sufjan Stevens - "Flint"

to name a few

edit: a few people beat to some of these

Hmmmm. I like the song, but I don't think it'd be in my top 100 album openers. I'm not sure what my pick would be, though.

These come to mind:

"Victoria"
"Down On the Street"
"Jackie Wilson Said"
"Suicide's An Alternative/You'll Be Sorry"
"Ether"

Yeah. "All-time" just throws this too wide-open, though.

I think this and "At Least That's What You Said" win for me.

I like the songs in the poll well enough, but none of them strike me as being terribly remarkable album openers.

from the poll i picked spoon.

off the top of my head my choices would be:
goin against your mind- built to spill
everything in its right place- radiohead
these are the ghosts - a band of bees
teeth like god's shoeshine - modest mouse

and my favorite opener of ALL time: angel by massive attack.

"Lonesome Day" - Bruce Springsteen
"Like Eating Glass" - Bloc Party
"Hope There's Someone" - A & The J's
"It Dawned On Me" - Calla
"Mexican Wine" - Fountains Of Wayne
"Iron Woman" - Devin Davis
"Monkey" - Low
"East" - Marah
"New York, New York" - Ryan Adams
"Me And Mia" - Ted Leo
"Down At The Bottom Of Everything" - Bright Eyes
"Neighborhood #1 (Tunnels)" - The Arcade Fire

All come to min, but in my opinion, the greatest opener of the 2000's is...

"Our Love" - Rhett Miller

The best opener of the 21st century is fittingly from the best album of the 21st century.
