Some of you may be more familiar with this era of Bob's career. I certainly am not, so I was pleasantly surprised when a friend sent me this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MJSGbMs5 ... 0Letterman

"Bob Dylan assembles this new wave/punk band-FOR THIS ONE PERFORMANCE (he didn't do anything else with these guys-a shame) and does three tunes for Letterman.
Bob's obviously on the blow, and fucks up on "live" TV (Bob usually only records/performs one take), and grabs THE WRONG HARMONICA.... Dylan turns this weird mistake into a brilliant harp solo."

The following are the other performances (over two nights) :

Whew! I thought it was going to be that bizarre performance of "Like a Rolling Stone" from one of the Letterman anniversary shows where he's backed by, like, a 20-piece all star band, and he sings the whole song as if he'd decided to eliminate all consonants:

Uh uh-ah a eye oo eh oh eye
Oo uh uh uh eye ih uh eye
Ih ooo!

This is fucking JAIL! I wish this version was available somewhere for inclusion on some kind of fine monger mix.
