I've yet to come across an alcoholic who didn't say things when plastered he later regretted. Since it's known Gibson's dad is anti-semitic and an overbearing opinionated asshole, it's quite likely he was also abusive. Gibson may have had the shit beaten out of him when he was a kid and his dad may have used many drunken "colorful" phrases while inflicting said beatings.

Doesn't excuse Gibson, but it may explain why he's known to apologize profusely for drunken outbursts over the years.

And of course this entire report could be b.s.

He hasn't denied saying anything like that in his apology on this incident, but no one has really asked him.
What's with his american taliban beard, he looks like a real cook.

Wait a damn minute.

From ABC News
The 50-year-old Oscar-winning director and actor was arrested Friday in Los Angeles. Law enforcement officers said they clocked him doing 87 mph in a 45 mph zone. A breath test indicated Gibson's blood-alcohol level was 0.12 percent, sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore said. In California a driver is legally intoxicated at 0.08 percent.

0.12? I've woken up with a higher BAC than that.

I really hate Mel Gibson, so we're even.

I'll still go see the Leonard Cohen movie though.

As little as I respect the guy* & as sure I am he hates the Jew, the 0.12 percent makes this too far fetched. Double his BAC & I'm a believer

*Mainly due to the fact he talked a lot of people into taking pay cuts to work on Passion & then didn't kick them back some hundreds of millions later tsk tsk

i don't care how drunk he was you don't just say/i] shit like that. the fact that he issued an apology leads me to believe he said what they're saying he said and the apology said he regretted what he said but said nothing to specifically take back the anti-semitic stuff--which may be implied in the apology but [i]implying that he regrets say things like that ain't gonna cut it.

fuck 'm.

edit: good slate.com article on this

his dad is a nut, so i'm just wondering how many of us would've turned out differently if you had to grow up in that household.

Where are the fine tapes, ala Pat O'Brien?

I'd LOVE to hear this.

Well, Hutton's nearly 90 years old. Soon he'll die and maybe his son can get therapy.

Doesn't matter if you've won Oscars and are a powerful actor/director/businessman. If your childhood was spent being brainwashed by a sumbitch, you're gonna have issues.

So overbearing opinionated assholes run in the family then? And his best work is still the Mad Max series. At least he didn't take himself so seriously.

If by "run in the family" you mean a bigoted asshat made his son's formative years a holy hell and the son turned out a more smiley charismatic version of the asshat, yeah.

I want to thank Mel for giving me that one final boost I needed to get started with my next installment of "Lo-Def Theater," coming soon to Hip Displeasure.
