Not sure if this was posted here or not

"Ray LaMontagne = out of the Guster tour
Nada Surf = in with the Guster tour
I had tickets to the Denver show, and I am hoping that now Ray LaMontagne will reschedule with solo shows. I hear that the dear Guster fans were not very supportive of Mr. LaMontagne and his music, which is unfortunate. I'm just sayin', is all."

Ill reiterate that I thought the fans at the Nashville show, which turned out to be the straw that broke the camels back, were 99.9% behind Lamontagne. He got plenty of "We Love You!"'s and three or four standing ovations, but because of one or two stupid fans, he leaves the tour and everyone assumes that Guster fans dont like him. I actually lose some respect for Ray over this. He isnt Bob Dylan, hell, he isnt even Ryan Adams. Hes not quite established enough to pull this.

From what I understand, dude is introverted/agoraphobic to the point of neurosis.

what constitutes one or two stupid fans? what could these people have possibly done for him to leave a tour? if everyone doesn't love him, he's going to ditch? he'd better get used to. for the record, i have never heard anyone mention this guy outside of this board.

He was pretty well-received here, everyone knew his songs and cheered for particular ones. He shows up on the radio here too also. But I think that you reinforce the point I was trying to make. Guster definitely draws a frat-party crowd, but they were very respectful, for the most part.

very diffident dude. he puts on a quiet set and reportedly he was so nervous and pissed at the nashville show that he freaked out and said some, erm, bad things. his record is coming out early next month, so promoters wanted him doing his own tour anyway.

If he's too shy to go play music in front of people for money, he ought to just take that golden horseshoe out of his ass and pass it on to someone who could use it. Like me. I've got lysol wipes here in the office, so it's o.k.

I just cant describe how supportive the crowd was, and I have no idea what bothered him, but he let loose in the last song. It was pretty awesome, and just added to the greatness of the night. For those of you who dont remember, heres the exchange:

Ray: *singing unaccompanied blues song*
Audience member: laughs at something
Ray: *stops show*, "so, apparently someone thinks the blues are funny. i bet this guy cant wait to get home and drink a six-pack, and wait until his kids are old enough to rape." *storms off stage*

Keep in mind that he had absolutely no interaction with the audience other than to introduce the band members. obviously very introverted dude. Great voice though. Good set.

Trouble has sold around 500,000 copies worldwide, so plenty of people know who he is.

This made me laugh out loud. I hope Ray heard that as well.

Nada Surf should fit the bill just nicely. I may try to see that tour if it comes by now.

Sounds like a dude who either needs or has gotten his share of, ass beatings.

The Atlanta crowd at that show was also very supportive of Ray (in fact, I had these two girls in the smoking area tell me how dissapointed they were that he wasnt headlining--they werent famaliar with Guster at all), but they were definitely Guster's crowd so maybe dude couldnt handle that every night.

As to Guster's crowd, they are definitely college-y, but almost annoyingly nice, polite, and well scrubbed---I was frankly horrified by the lack of hijinks.

Overall I thought it was a nice double bill.

that's because people outside the board are complete and total idiots :). In 3 years there will be the same frat-boy crowd that "tend" to be at the guster show at the LaMontagne one gettin' their jack johnson groove on. But we have to wait for LaMontagne to become cool first. Just give it a while.

Crowd support grew in Boston throughout the show...at the end, when he left, he got a HUGE ovation, thought for sure he would come back and play an encore

I had heard about this last week. Very well received in Boston as well. Gotta say, I was a bit disappointed in his performance last Friday, he was much better and, dare I say, charming, when I saw him in Northampton last year.

Its also possible that he was tired of all the eco-propaganda and positive vibrations associated with the tour (the buses were 100% bio-fuel etc.).

Or maybe those Guster guys were TOO happy all the time?

Lack of bangable chicks? That's definitely something I noticed. Homely broad alert.

There was a pause in which people started getting up between the last two songs.

Where were you sitting, by the way?

I actually prefer this. I like LaMontagne alright, but I love Nada Surf.

They haven't announced any Canadian dates anyway, but I'm assuming they will.

Sorry, but Nada Surf, Rogue Wave, and Guster all on one bill sounds like a complete snore fest. I know lots of people here love all three of these bands so this is a dream line up, but blech!
