when red and i saw her last year, she played a new song that was amazing - easily the best thing we heard all night. none of those titles sound like it, which is unfortunate. the voice grates on my ears, but that tune was majestic.

that show was also the origin of "the joanna newsom rule", which anyone who goes to a show with red and/or i will probably hear at some point.

From what I've read, she took about a dozen or so songs and compressed them all into five songs. So the song you heard is probably now a fragment of one of these eleven minute long songs.

A Ys YSI?

I don't have it. I haven't even bothered looking if it's not out til November.

That and I try not to download full albums before their release date. I still like the simple joys of buying a cd on its release date and taking it out of the plastic wrap and putting it into the stereo for the first time.

On paper, this is my most anticipated music to come out this year.

Why would someone paint her with a lazy eye, though?

I would assume the artiste is paying homage to some existing old painting which I'm not arty-memoried enough to recall.

Cause otherwise why would one ever make boo-zums smaller?

Looked around for mp3s of the tracks and didn't find any yet. Will certainly get this, though.

Evidently, "Ys" does not stand for "yayas".

that's because we didn't have to put it into effect at that show.

if a show isn't going too well, the rule is that we wait two songs for it to turn around. if either of us (or anyone else in the party) likes one of those songs, we give it another two songs (or the person who likes it makes a quick argument to stay outright). so, basically, 10-15 minutes into anything less than an undeniably good show, one of us will say, "joanna newsom?" and then we wait to see/hear if it gets better. if not, we're out of there. actually, the rule hasn't been into effect in a long time because i haven't been to a non-festival show since june.

This is the best argument for that I've seen.

Well, okay then, Joanna is branching out. It's druids this time instead of faeries.
