I want a new bike. I think I'll go to this store: Velomakak.

Do you see any bikes there that I should pursue? I don't really know much except that I'd like to get off my adolescent mountain bike and on some sexy, fast road bike. I'd not spend more than $500.

Man, some of those bikes are suspect. Cadillac and Denali mountain bikes? Junk.

Not so sure about the road bikes- I can't really tell. The Surly is ok, but $1,800 sounds expensive. Stay away from this website. If they're selling crap like Caddy/Denali, they're not looking out for your best interests.

For example:

GMC Denali (road bike)
Colour: Blue/Silver/Black
21 Speed
7005 Series aluminum
Shimano Revo Shift Index Shifters
Shimano 21 Speed Index (SIS – Shimano Index System) Model: RD-TZ30
Steel Crank
Cionlli seat
28” high profile Vitesse aluminum rims
Aerorails Aerodynamic Fork
Price: $350.00

Just the fact that they use steel cranks on this bike (most are aluminum) tells me this is almost certainly a POS bike.

If you can only (this is not much when buying a bike) spend $500, you're better off buying used. Check your local Craigslist. Get advice from a friend who knows bikes before you buy used, you don't want to buy a bike that doesn't fit you.

fp

Edit: I only looked at the first page. Too scared to go further.

surlys are nice bikes, but $1,800 is too much for the complete cross-check. a surly is good for people who want to build a bike. they are good frames that are somehow compatible with just about every possible component.

What Finchy said.
Go to a reputable bikeshop & buy used for $500. Now is probably a good time of year to buy, since someone might be looking to sell at the end of season.

Although all seasons are great for biking.

Best of luck,
Bill
