I've spent most of this year being pretty indifferent towards new releases, but it looks like a bunch of good stuff is finally coming out this fall. Next week looks to be a big one, at least for stuff I'm interested in.

These are the ones I know I want:

Mastodon - Blood Mountain
Mouse on Mars - Varcharz
Magnolia Elec. Co. - Fading Trails
TV on the Radio - Return to Cookie Mountain
Yo La Tengo - I Am Not Afraid of You and I Will Beat Your Ass

Then there's Richard Buckner, Junior Boys, OOIOO, and Hella, all of which I'd like to hear. And the Roots, or is that already out? Then there's more stuff to come later in the month like Akron/Family, Wolf Eyes, and a new Pere Ubu (though I have't heard their last two).

Anyway, I'm hoping to get more than just 2 or 3 2006 albums that I really care about. It's seemed like a lackluster year to me so far.

What else is coming out this month or in the near future?

Roots is already out, because I picked it up and put it down this weekend.

OK. Some sites listed the release as next week, but that must be overseas or something.

Also don't forget a couple of key jazz releases that sound pretty damned intriguing:

Bill Frisell/Ron Carter/Paul Motian

Brad Mehldau and Pat Metheny

Sound clips at Amazon and both sound really great. Frisell's getting back to a more trad-jazz sound after years of Americana-laden stuff, and Mehldau/Metheny is a complete surprise because I just couldn't hear these two together, yet it's quite a beautiful combination.

But yeah, I'll be picking up TV on the Radio and Mastodon as well - weird week of music there. Probably get that Yo La Tengo at some point as well.

Mouse on Mars and the Frisell record pique my interest. Please tell me more those of you who've heard them...

Oh, well "incredible" isn't really my thing.

I prefer "mediocre experimentalism", "failed attempt at accessibilty" and "angular".

The OOIOO is sick.

The BPB to me is an improvement on Superwolf.

Good to hear. I liked Superwolf, but got pretty tired of it after a while.

Is the OOIOO really that much better than their previous stuff?

Because, IMO, even Feather Float isn't really "sick".
