Fill in the rest with whatever artist/group you are curious to learn more about or dive into their catalog more deeply. I just thought it might be interesting to find out some of the music we have always wondered about yet never got into and have some people offer some feedback when they can help.

I'll go first: Emmylou Harris. Such a beautiful voice, a talented writer and interesting collaborater. Her catalog seems pretty overwhelming considering all of the projects she has been involved in in addition to her solo stuff. I have Elite Hotel and Roses in the Snow on vinyl as well as a duets compilation, but not sure where to go from there.

The voice of an angel, without a doubt. When I get to heaven, I better hear voices like hers or I'm going to be disappointed.

I'm not into her earlier country stuff (haven't heard it, honestly,) but I definitely suggest checking out Wrecking Ball. That album just kills me. Daniel Lanois' production and some of his band (including him) (as well as guests like Larry Mullen Jr., Steve Earll, and others) and her voice = heavenly. Her follow-up, Red Dirt Girl is also very good, but not quite as solid - she tries hard to work in that same vein, and even hires one of Lanois' band members to handle the production duties and he does a very good job of maintaining a similar feel, but her own songwriting isn't quite up to the quality of the material she chose for Wrecking Ball (which makes sense since all but two were covers.) Stumble Into Grace just didn't make the connecting punch with me, for whatever reason - probably a continuation of the issues I had with RDG's songwriting, but it's still very similar in style. It's probably time to revisit that with fresher ears - it's been a couple years since I last heard it. Maybe it'll click this time.

Edited to add: and also check out the album she and Mark Knopfler released earlier this year, All The Roadrunning. I like it a lot.

Oops. I've been absent more often than not lately, so I'll look for that.

And to the Mayor...I'll look into your suggestions for sure. Thanks for the feedback.

As often happens in these "recommend me" threads, I'm gonna give you advice that conflicts with the Mayor's. If we get enough posts here, you'll probably get at least 5-7 albums recommended as the starting point.

I have all of her 70's work and I like every one of them better than Wrecking Ball and Red Dirt Girl. I also like Stumble Into Grace more than either of those but not by as wide a margin. Start in the 70's though. If you're not sure which to get, look at the track listings and songwriting credits and choose that way. They are all good to great.

My personal favorites of the ones you don't have are Luxury Liner and Pieces of the Sky, but you really can't go wrong with anything from the 70's.

np: Hannibal Marvin Peterson "Children of the Fire"

That's just evidence that you're an indie hipster obsessed with listening only to whatever's fleetingly considered "cool".

I'm actually in the middle of one of these phases now, as I'm becoming engrossed in the career of 70's UK glam rock sensation Slade. I've even been hanging out at a fan board, learning a lot of the history of the band, etc.

Perfect timing, too - their catalog is being reissued starting this month.

I've wondered what, if anything, I should get besides Odyssey & Oracle. I like that a lot, but I wasn't really sure if there was anything else by them I should pick up.

The inner workings of juke boxes and landscaping.

Musically, I'd like to hear/learn more about The Go-Betweens. I have three of their albums, and two are excellent (IMO anyway). I feel like I should have the rest of their catalog.

Yeah, jukeboxes are something I would like to know more about, too.

landscaping~ I understand spanish fairly well, so I know about this stuff already.

I'd like to know how people are handling the integration of standard, old record collections, Cd collections, and digital collections in a way that does not cause the den to look like a terror attack has recently occured.

I shoulda been more specific - they're being released by a UK company. Here's the full scoop :

http://mailinglist.stroemoe.com/Mailing ... elease.htm

Amazon's got 'em for decent import prices, though - in the $15-20 range.

omg, really? start with their first: pink flag. but you can't go wrong with the first three: pink flag, chairs missing, 154. EMI remastered those 3 in 2000 so imo, you should check those out.

No, that's one that slipped by me. Re-upping it would be greatly appreciated.
