I was watching One Hit Wonders and they played their "Faith" video for some reason. I'm not sure why since they weren't really a OHW and, if they were, it certainly wasn't that song. But it got me thinking.

Mostly thinking "I can't believe these guys were ever popular. And they weren't just popular. They were huge. Well, come on, even I owned Significant Other at one point. And I owned Korn's Issues too. So I guess, if even I bought into that shit at the time, it was pretty easy for others to as well."

No. I always thought they sucked and Nookie might be might my least favorite song of the last 2 decades.

Look in the portishead thread, and there's GnR defending going on.

Knees.

gimme a fucking break. I'm not saying they sucked as much as Limp Bizkit, but it still only took about 15 seconds of either band for me to get a gut feeling that this wasn't gonna be my cup of tea.

Maybe because everything Chocolate... and afterwards doesn't count: Borland stopped caring at that point.

Significant Other is a pretty damn good record for what it is. That said, it really doesn't have the staying power of similar records released at that time period (Korn's first three, Sevendust's first two, debuts from Taproot and Ultraspank).

Are you actually trying to say that Guns n Roses is a bad band? Maybe not your cup of tea, but they're one of the most important acts in hard rock, period.

Are you Verbal Intercourse in disguise?

They're a bad band with a decent guitarist, o.k. two decent guitarists, an inexplicably charismatic caterwauler, and go tell Dalen that they make hard rock. They make hard rock like springsteen makes disco. They were hair metal that said "oh, please don't mistake us for hair metal, we're hard rock. HARD."

Never.

And as for G'n'R, I liked 'em a bit but could never get into Axel's screeching. Good band though. But I wouldn't say they were the most important hard rock band - more that they were the most successful hard rock band.

This is like saying the Beatles didn't make pop music in the second half of their career because they grew their hair out. You're more caught up in the categories than you are the music. Who cares? There's nothing to argue about here if all it is about is categorization.

So you didn't like Guns n Roses. Good for you. Or, really, too bad for you - you missed out. But to try and deny their place in rock history is pretty stupid - they're already there, it's done and over with. Move on.

Please re-read. I said "one of" - not the.

Y'know if Bizkit had, say, DMX as a singer/lyricist instead of a doughy high-school-poetry douchenozzle, I think I would have been able to get into them.

Unfortunately I didn't miss out. I couldn't miss out. Those fuckers were everywhere.

But now i've seen the error of my ways. I understand that there's a huge void in my life, a Guns N Roses shaped void.

Why exactly do people defend this band and don't defend, oh say, Motley Crue?

No seriously.

Motley pretty much sucked after 'Shout At The Devil', with a handful of brilliant hair metal gems over the next 15 years...! :) Heh heh! :)

O.k. i know this strays farther from the GnR paradigm, but as long as you're defending the war crimes of known criminals....

Winger.

Go.

Obviously this is a relative opinion, but overall I would say the music was just not as interesting or memorable compared to the existing GnR albums. The latter just had a little something else. Hell, even the Crue acknowledged in their memoir 'The Dirt' that after Shout at the Devil, most of their albums had a good song and a bunch of shitty filler.

Now let's talk about Cinderella!

Haha... I can go all day!

Winger: can't deny the catchiness of 'Seventeen', or the coolness of 'Hungry'...Other then that, they were pretty disposable for me...

I am a big BIG fan of 80's cheese metal.....I'll find something good in all of em if I have too....

Everything doesnt have to be a Radiohead or Olu Dara to be enjoyable! :)
