Tommy Lee is the next Keef.

And it's gotta be intentional. He looks more and more like a mummy every time I see him. He's obviously higher than hell every time he's on TV. He's already got an american version of "the mumble language."

I think he's decided that, dispite popular belief and a long-standing agreement with the devil, Keef WILL actually die one day, and I think he wants to be there to fill that void.

Discuss.

The bad news, if I'm correct, is that this means Tommy will also live waaaaay beyond what medical science says is possible. Well, some of the bad news, anyway.

p.s. I hate the show, wife is/was hooked on it.

Why Tom Arnold? Forgotten, formerly coke addicted buffoon? At least one of the two Toms can drum something, aside from Roseanne's fat ass.

This was my first year watching Rock Star and it was pretty enjoyable summer viewing.

I don't see it. Keef has been in the same band for like a century and is an icon for it. Tommy Lee is a modern icon for whoring yourself out on tv, when you can't maintain musical success. At some point, he will reach the David Lee Roth level, where nobody cares.
I don't know if there are any guitarist in any bands right now that hold a similar status of Keef.

Really? I thought it was pretty entertaining at times, in a how-low-can-it-go kind of way.

I found it a trite, contrived, sugar-coated characature of "rock and/or roll." The winner sounds like he's trying to vomit when he sings.

Sugar-coated because they sang songs by Coldplay, Killers et al.? I guess, but it was always funny to see what they'd do with it. And yeah, it's a tv show with "Rock Star" in the title, so obviously it's contrived, but I think most people who participate are in on the joke. I think there was only one dude who was an obvious caricature of a 'rock star', with the champagne bottle and the speakers, but so much of it is. The only thing he didn't do was yell 'slag off' at Milhouse. Lukas' vocals are kind of hit or miss, I'll give you that, but no worse than any other metal vocalist I've ever heard.

That all being said, I can see why folks who are serious about music (or musicians) wouldn't like this show.

Now explain their love for Def Leppard.

My coworker, male and straight, is like obsessed with him lately. He's mentioned no less than a dozen times in the past few weeks how incredible he looks for a 44 year old guy. I think those of us who actually knew who he was talking about were thinking the same thing - "um, what? We're talking about the same guy, right, the one who's rather disgusting and leathery looking, right?" But he just went on about how great he looked at his age. It was weird.

I thought you were talking about the movie, Rock Star starring Marky Mark and Jennifer Aniston. Now that's something I can talk about.

Yeah, I take my Keef comparisons seriously.

Keef wrote some of the greatest songs in history and doesn't remember going it. Tommy Lee wrote dick (okay, the piano intro to "Home Sweet Home") and won't let anyone forget his overrated (albeit talented nonetheless) acheivements.

Nikki Sixx might be worth a compelling discussion, but Tommy Lee is just too stupid and whorish. Let's face it, Keef has always been too intuitive and fucked up to be either.

of course, I'm biased. That show makes me punch myself in the face in hopes of passing out. and Keef is a force.

I'm not really much of a Rolling Stones fan, but comparing a guy who has logged time as the lead guitar player for one of the longest lived and most loved bands in rock history with a guy who played drums in a crappy hair metal band and now has to resort to picking a lead singer by participating in a game show as a lame attempt to resurrect the shattered remnants of his career is stretching shit a bit much.

If all it takes is being skinny and wasted with a mumble, I invite you to puruse the Keith Richards selection at your nearest methadone clinic.

For those who watch Food Network, check out Paula Deen's gray-bearded biker hubby. Now THAT DUDE will throw down some SERIOUS mumble talk!

Brilliant. Even though this reference is from an entirely different Simpsons episode, I'm cracking myself up imagining Moe in the audience, telling Carl and Lenny, "It's good to see the spectacle back in rock!"

I, too, am baffled at how the ATL posse has inexplicably turned on TEH CAP'N. You might even say The Lummox is flummoxed.
