OPA insertion

Right now I'm studying for my Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support certification exam and came across this bit of information regarding unconscious patients:

In the event of unconsciousness with no cough or gag reflex, insert an OPA to maintain airway patency. An OPA should not be used in a conscious or semiconscious patient because it may stimulating gagging and vomiting

For those of you that don't know, OPA is an acronym for the oropharyngeal airway.
