On one of our computers, you open up explorer 6.0 and it closes immediately... within 2 seconds. This just started today and worked fine earlier today.
Updated my software, cleared cookies and history, did a scan, no spyware or viruses, searched microsoft help pages and the internet at large and found nothing to help me out describing a similiar problem... it's driving me crazy.

Literally, you open Explorer and it launches then and it closes immediately. I even went as far as to do a system restore (I have a Sony vaio) and revert the settings back to a couple of days ago, but still the damn thing launches and closes immediately. Not really looking for Firefox, navigator, or other application suggestions, just wondering if anyone has ran into this type of problem before or knows what in the hell is going on.

Thanks for reading...

I just read about the same thing happening to people on another board. There are trojans known to do this so I'm guessing there's one going around.

If you download HighJackThis and post a result of its scan I can try to help more.

Thanks for the response... I was on that pc today and did nothing more than check this site, yahoo leagues, cbs sportsline, and other harmless sites. No downloads, no email action... geez, this pc is the family pc in the study and I was the last one on it. Maybe it's a time release trojan... I'll work some more.. I tried to replace explorer 6.0 with the new 7.0 still in beta but i think I made a bad problem worse.

did you try doing a boot-time virus scan? most antivirus software can run after restarting your computer before windows loads--sometimes this can catch viruses it would otherwise miss. you could also try messing with some of your antivirus settings--tell it to scan archives, files that have moved to storage, running processes, etc.
