ok.....punk rock has been sort of downhill for me over the years. anyway, i got my hands on the new Strike Anywhere disc and good lord its good. PM if you want it.

I was fearful that the switch from Jade Tree to Fat Wreck would alter their sound - but NOPE.

I am thinking Strike Anywhere is one of those best new punk bands in the last few years or so.

On the Ramones pop punk end of the spectrum, I've always enjoyed The Queers.

Also, anyone heard of the Lawrence Arms. I've been hearing that their new one is pretty stellar. 4 1/2 stars on AMG.

Here's a review of the new one:

If anyone has this I'd love to hear what you think.

Slapstick or Slapshot?

I used to have a Slapshot album, but sold it back because it really grated on me.

I've been a Screeching Weasel fan myself since I saw them play in a church basement in the late '80s. Great show and even the skinheads liked it.

i have Dead To Me - Cuban Ballerina (also released on Fat Wreck). It's very, very good. The website says Jawbreaker + Stiff Little Fingers, but i think it's more One Man Army + Dickies. that's my punk pick of 2006 so far.

also, if you are into horror/surf punk, Hunchback - Ugly On The Outside is essential. RIYL uh...horror/surf punk... but also Killdozer and Mudhoney's punkiest moments.

edit to say a few more things: i'm not a fan of the larry arms but apparently fans are saying the new one, Oh Calcutta, is right up there with their best material.

i do however love the Queers but everything they've done after Punk Rock Confidential is pretty weak.

news that might as well go here than anywhere:

Dirtnap Records is going to release an Exploding Hearts album that collects the singles/b-sides/demos and pretty much everything else they recorded that isn't on Guitar Romantic. Out this fall.

I was into punk once upon a time, and while I still enjoy it, its a rare new band that hits me like the ones that I matured with. I do REALLY love The Bronx. I'm also down with Riverboat Gamblers. Most Gearhead Recs artists I'm into. I'd be hard-pressed though to name 10 current punk bands that I'm really into. I do however am still trying to go back and listen to as much older punk as I can, and continue to buy that.
