man they sucked live last night opening for the long winters in nyc. too bad, really, i was really looking forward to the show. not only did they look off their game but the sound was horrible.

really?I wanted o check that show in philly on thursday but was too beat to make it. How were the long winters?

they were harmless. i don't know them that well. pretty straightforward roots-y rock. they actually reminded me a lot of the connells (remember them?). the singer had a pretty good stage presence and had decent stage banter--put a couple of hecklers in their place.

I saw Menomena a couple years ago and thought their live show was awful. It took 'em damn near 45 minutes to set up and once they finally got going they just bored everyone silly. Shitty live band.

i was also at this show. i didn't hate it as much as you did, but there were many problems. The show would have been twice as good if they could have managed to not soundcheck for 20 fucking minutes after they were set up, and then after all that to have the sound not be that good, shameful. they're actually a lot better now than when i first caught them a few years back, but they need the sound to be perfect for their live show to be compelling.
i'm guessing you didn't like any of the new tracks?
