Ha!

Just came across this link on another site.

I have similar issues with a lot of Pitchfork's reviews that most other people have, but since this exactly matches my thoughts of this band I'll give them a free pass this time.

Yeah...that first album was a travesty. How dare some band make a fun, accessable rock album in this day and age. Don't they realize they're supposed to try to act way cooler than that.

Are they wildly original? No....but neither are the vast majority of the band-of-the-moments that get hyped either.

Hey, I've got no problem with you liking them (though god knows why  ), and if that review was given to a band I liked I'd be a bit annoyed too. But seeing as I actively hate Jet I found that childish but pretty damn funny

I think Jet are silly as hell and have a much higher opinion of themselves than is merited, but at least they're interested in actual rock. There's so many horrible emo-lite-punk-lite bands. Jet at least aren't that. They're just clunky. Not completely shitty.

Pete Townshend should be kicking all these kids in the balls and setting them up for Entwhistle's ghost to finish them off with his ghost-bass.

I don't mind a band or album like that at all, but it was boring enough that I sold the CD back. I liked one or two tracks, and the rest was like a bad enema - it just didn't move me.

Huh, link sent me to a review page with no text, so I went to the Reviews Page, and all the other reviews work except for that one. That Silversun Pickups review was wierd too. Although they're right, their bassist "is way cute".

So what did they say about Jet?

I actually thought it was a pretty funny statement. I just find the way they arbitrarily decide what bands are ripping off older music and which ones are somehow bringing something new to the table is silly. I'm not a big fan of Jet, but they had a great single and I liked the album ok. It’s certainly no more of a rehash than the countless 80s inspired bands that critics have somehow found favor with critics. I like some of those bands and songs too, but pretending one group is inspired while the other is ripping stuff off just doesn't make a bit of sense. Christ, the first time I saw Franz Ferdinand I though I was watching some band that somehow slipped past me around 1983. But, they’re somehow classed bold and original.

I guess I’ll just never understand fashion.

I hate Jet but I think this is a fucking disgrace. I gave up on PFM long ago but I really didn't think they'd ever sink this low. This is frat-boy prank mentality.

Furthermore, why even bother to review something like Jet? Why waste the space? There's plenty of actual good music going on out there, so why not use the time and space to promote something they do like? They didn't "review" Jet because they wanted to steer people away from it, they did so because they have the mentality of 13 year olds and wanted to do something that would make them giggle like 13 year olds. What a waste - this just proves that they aren't out to critique music to help music fans but to pump up their own egos as bad writers. Good writers don't need to engage in this kind of infantile behavior.

Oh, geez, lighten up. It was a dumb joke, but what the hell. They've never been a 100% serious, professional music criticism site. Haven't you read any of their old "skit" reviews?

Why even waste the energy caring about this? Either laugh at it or don't. I didn't, honestly, but I'm hardly upset that their fifth review of the day, tucked away at the bottom of the pile, was a silly "frat-boy" joke.

i'd even laugh if actual frat-boys reviewed it that cleverly

also

who's to say thats an all negative review?
the monkey-piss-taste was probably pretty good for jet

Jet are shit and unoriginal (lust for life, anyone?). But so is most of the shit Pitchfork heaps praise on these days, so whatever. The joke is on Pitchfork. If only they could see what they looked like from up here.\

Fucken' exports. Fosters. Jet. Wolfmother. Eric Bana in a non-comedic capacity.

I don't have a problem with Jet. It's seriously not bad for what passes for radio rock these days.

Of course I've seen their skit reviews - skits, jokes, stories, now this video. That's exactly why I've stopped reading PFM. They don't do anything seriously, yet people read them and take their "criticism" very seriously. They're a fucking travesty. If this was a one-off instance, it would be funny - but this is just another in a long line of things where they go "Oh, we're above this." They're above everything. They're a bunch of disgusting, snotty little snobs - yet they're ironically pandering to the lowest common denominator with "reviews" like this.

I'll stand up and say that I actually like Jet. Original? Nah...who cares, I just think they're fun. And didn't they stop living below the equator? I know a few of the members spend a lot of time in LA.

To add to your hatred, I'm seeing them later this month.
