I heard a cover by U2/Green Day on NPR tonight of one of their songs and I really liked it.

Are they good? Any fans? Any YSI's? Any recommendations for songs to hear?

All these years later, ol' Bono gets some Skids luv goin'.

Heh.

Bound to piss off the original fans, but good for Skids.

They'll be referenced as Stuart Adamson's pre-Big Country gig a lot in the next few weeks and that's bound to piss off the old punks even more.

Like a number of other '77-era punkers, they didn't stay punk and the post-Adamson record I used to have was downright mellow, but they were certainly good dudes.

Radcliffe or Billy G or Billzebub probably have a more thorough take on them.

I downloaded Scared to Dance a few months ago. Pretty good album.

Skids facts

1) They recorded 'Into The Valley' which everyone on Earth has heard millions of times.

2) They came from Dunfermline, Scotland, which is a good bet for Gloomiest, Dullest, Most Depressing Place On Earth.

3) Richard Jobson went on to become a television presenter, arts writer and complete cock.

Scared To Dance is ranked pretty high in my Listmania...had they not made that record, Days In Europa would be ranked in its place. The Absolute Game wasn't as great but still has some stellar moments, and Joy (the post Adamson rekkid) pales in comparison.

Yeah, I dig 'em lots. If you find you really like their first two records, check out one of their Scottish contemporaries The Scars.
