Thanks all who suggested him. He has aged well. The triple wonder of albums Impossible Bird, The Convincer, and Dig My Mood is awesome especially for an aging artist.

Thanks again. I have found them and I am pleased. (So is me ma  )

Yeah, the three most recent (the ones seafoam mentioned above) are all like that--it's Country Gentleman Nick. Pop Weirdo Nick is dead.

Reasons:
1. He started out kinda country back in the '70s as a member of Brinsley Schwarz, so it's actually not such a big turnaround.
2. He's old.
3. He'd been trying to write a song for Johnny Cash ever since he married Carlene Carter and decided to stick with the style. Cash finally recorded one ("The Beast in Me") long after the marriage had ended.
4. Strange serendipity--a cover version of "(What's So Funny 'Bout) Peace, Love and Understanding," performed by Curtis Stigers, appeared on the 15-million-selling soundtrack album to The Bodyguard, netting Lowe a million dollars in writer's royalties. So he doesn't need a hit and can record whatever the hell he wants.
