Is it ok to mix this with something as foul as Diet Coke. I was drinking old man beer at my favorite bar and some girl ordered a Jameson with what I assume was Diet Coke after hearing her order, but it might have been plain coke.
I thought she committed a mortal sin, but not as bad as the girl from the Twin Cities that didn't know who Bob Mould was.

That's what I thought too, but I needed a woman's answer to that question. I drink it straight up or on the rocks with nothing added.

I'm on a break from jameson for a while . . . drinking powers, instead! ;)

There is no whiskey mortal sin. Get over it.

Mix it with milk if you want. Whatever. It's booze. Smooth booze, but booze.

Whiskey and coke has been an established drink for probably a century.

I think people pretty much have too many faux pas Man/Woman Rules and subjective gaucheness guidelines for themselves. Pretty much.

Wear the shoes you want to. Weat the pants you want to. Drink the booze you want to. Listen to the music you want to. Worrying about whether it's acceptable is silly.

I happen to think Jameson and diet coke together tastes like shit, though, so there's that.

I never mix, so to mix with anything in my eyes is a sin. Was that just a haiku?

More of a Bushmills man myself.

Either on ice or with a little ginger ale and a splash of lime.

If I'm at home just chilling I will drink it on the rocks because I have more time to appreciate it but if I'm at a party or at a bar I'll get a mixer.

Ha! This reminds me of a friend whose every drink order consisted of Jack Daniels and Diet Coke. And if the barkeep accidentally mixed it with regular Coke, she would immediately send it back. Whatever.

Jameson & Scotch

My answers:
1) It's better than drinking crappier whiskey with Diet Coke.
2) There's nothing silly about putting ice in Jameson or any other whiskey.
3) Jameson is the most boring of the commonly available (in the U.S.) irish whiskeys. I give credit to PoD for introducing me to Tullamore Dew, which has more bite and more flavor. Mm.

I pretty much stay away from mixers but mainly cause mixers make me sick the next day.

yeah, the tullamore has a bit of a honey flavor...it goes great in a hot tottie a.k.a. the greatest cold remedy ever.

Don't mix your Jameson.

I might not have cared once, but 2.5 years of weekly gigs with some hardcore Jame-o drinkers drilled that phrase into my brain... don't mix your Jameson.

Especially with something like a soda (I can see ginger maybe)... coke just takes over and covers it up. Put the shittiest liquor you can find with coke. Don't bother with anything remotely decent.

I prefer Bushmills and Powers to Jameson, I even like Michael Collins a little better than Jameson.
I like Single Malt Scotch a little better, but most bars around here don't carry that. Laphroaig is probably one of my favorites.

I almost posted "when did Jameson become the Holy Grail of whiskey?"

I like Laphroaig and Lagavin (sp) but can't afford to drink that stuff on a regular basis. It took some trying but I'm beginning to love lots of Peat. Love the Vennies (Dal & Bal) too.

And I know blended is passe' but it's hard to eff with Johnny Walker Black for affordable bar drink.

That does sound TASTY. My drink is Jack & Sprite. Sometimes bartenders put limes in it. I like 4 parts Jack to one part Sprite.

I'm pretty sure I've said on this board that Jameson is my favorite shot.

jameson is really smooth and i dont' really consider it when i think of whiskey or scotch. for me it's there to do a shot and not to apreciate.

for a while i was doing johnny walker black at bars for higher end blended, but i switched to dewars. it has a little bit of peat and won't rape your wallet.

See, I don't go to bars on the average, so mostly I'm drinking a tumbler at home after work or something. Most of the time its straight up liquor, no ice, unless I'm drinking Jager. Then it must be chilled for at least a week before even thinking about consuming.

Someone mentioned honey flavor, and while its not a whiskey, was wondering if anyone had tried Bearenjager (spelled phonetically)? Tastes exactly like honey. That will get you ripped up fairly quickly.

almost the same thing.... bar ginger= sprite w/a dash of coke.

it's ironic, as much as i drink, it's been hard for me to drink certain alcohol straight (esp. whiskey) because my stomach is sensitive, hence why i mix it with ginger ale.

a friend introduced me to tullamore dew as well, but haq have you tried tullamore dew 12 year? now, THAT'S what i call tasty whiskey. mmmm.

as for other whiskey, i can do jack if jameson is not available but can't get into bushmills or johnny walker black. and i refuse to drink crown because i used to drink crown like water in high school (must be a korean thing ).
