i'd like to see her but don't think her live show would be as good as the album.

I get a kick out of her album, though I've only heard the tracks at work and on the launchcast station. The accent/crass lyrics combo is a good fit but I'm not sure I'd listen to it very often if I bought it.

I think the album grew on me at a ridiculous clip, but faded fast. By the time it came out I think there was only 2 or 3 songs that didn't make me want to put my first through glass

I wouldn't mind seeing her. I can't imagine what she'd do in a live setting, but I'm sure it'd be fun I guess.

I'm a little burnt out on Alright, Still, but it was fun while it lasted.

I think Lily Allen is the indie girl of the month. Why someone would be excited about her or what clothes she's wearing I have no idea. Maybe it's a girl thing.

Or maybe it's all those people who chase after the latest indie trend, music nonwithstanding.

(note: see Arctic Monkeys, Deerhoof, Fiery Furnaces)

I still laugh that there are people who actually do this.
It's the music or nothing for me.
Maybe if I were 22 and lived in a major city, but even then, I doubt it severely.

how about the fact that I actually like 2 of her singles?
or the fact that I am new and alone without my husband in a big city and would have actually liked to have gone out last nite in lieu of spending another night home alone? or is that not indie enough?

I think south pacific must be around the indie-obnoxious more than some of the rest of us and has a jaded view of why people like some artists.

alright, my 2 cents. i think the hype surrounding her is purely based on the fact that she was discovered through myspace and within a matter of a few months, her demo was played on bbc and signed to a major in the uk .... so it was strictly a VIRAL promotion thing. sure, there are quite a few artists on myspace and who use plenty of grassroots/viral promotions, but a lot of them aren't "overnight successes" like lily allen was. labels are eating up this whole viral marketing/promo thing (think you tube & ok go, where the hell would they be if it weren't for that treadmill video?).

lily's sales: 73,000 albums sold within the first week (now for an "indie gal of the month," i say that's a pretty damn good number), her album is gold in the UK, and "smile" has been #1 in the UK singles charts for weeks.... i say "overnight success" because this all happened within a matter of a few months since november 2005.

so of course, when her album hits the U.S. in early 2007, and she signs to a major (capitol), there *is* going to be a lot of hype about her whether or not she's the trend of the month.... her album is fun and poppy, it appeals to the mainstream, blah blah blah- don't we always go through this indie backlash every few artists or so?
