I've never bought vinyl through the mail before and I have one major concern

Will the record be in one piece when I get it?

Experiences of buying vinyl through the mail, please.

i've ordered vinyl in the mail since 1987 and only had a problem twice, and that wasn't due to the post office. both times were pressing plant issues.

I say go for it. Most reputable companies would most likely guarantee secure shipment anyway.
I've repeatedly ordered Vinyls even from across the Globe so after double or tripple postal handling they still arrived intact.

I've ordered tons of vinyl by mail and never had a problem. BTW there's a great UK based site; diversevinyl.com, that has great service and carries a lot of stuff. My other main source for vinyl is insound.com.

bought vinyl mostly from sellers on gemm, and had no problems. All packed and shipped accordingly. Most were wrapped in an armor of bubblewrap, and then shipped in a sturdy cardboard box, made for vinyl.

those 12 1/4" x 12 1/4" boxes work well. most companies will put slips of bubblewrap in there too. i've never had shipping-related problems with vinyl via the mail.

Thanks everyone, my fears have been allayed except I'm not buying from a company it's an e-bay purchase.

in my experience, most people will not use additional bubblewrap inside the box, but the box is sturdy enough to protect records.

Unless it's someone so anxiously out to make a quik buck most e-bay sellers would be conscientious about securely wraping such items otherwise they start losing customers.

I've bought 15-20 lps mail order, only one came damaged. If you're paying much for it Darrin, pay a bit more for insurance.

Get down those charity shops as well. I was really suprised by some of the stuff they had. You have to wade through all the Genesis & Glenn Miller albums first. Well in N'pton anyway. (My parents had G.Miller on constantly when i was a kid, god i hate him).

I bought The Yachts first 2 albums off EBay and they were fine when I got them. I think one of them was from overseas too.

Interesting Did You Know? moment of the day: postal insurance is not protection for the receiver but for the sender. So even if something arrives damaged you still have to get the sender to deal with it, including getting your money back if that's the solution.

I think, for whatever purpose one might have for sperm bought on ebay, that such sperm would be useless, having perished shortly after ejaculation, and becoming nothing more than a dried paste following collection. So, no, don't order a load from ebay.

Don't drink equine ejaculate, either. Even if you happen to think Chris Pontius is teh awesome, don't do it. You'll regret it.

Convert them to mp3 then burn to discs. Maybe not all of them; some of my best stuff sound great in Vinyl.
