here's my haul from last night:

editors - the back room
mountain goats - tallahasse
neil young - after the goldrush
neil young - living with war
nina nastasia - on leaving
nina nastasia - run to ruin
rakes - capture/release
edie brickell - shooting rubberbands...
jenny lewis - rabbit fur coat
springsteen - nebraska
bonnie prince billy - cursed sleep

i can't accurately say what they cost because my wife was snapping up some operas and some sheet music, but i do know this: tower prices minus 15-20% is still not anywhere close to cheep enough to pick up shit you aren't truly willing to pay full price for anyway.

They seem to be in hurry to mark anything down more than 10% here, but I'm gonna check back again on Saturday.

I saw an ad for the Chicagoland locations that advertised "up to" 30% off on all merchandise. I'll check it out next weekend.

Yeah, no kidding. It's all old stuff anyhoo, since they haven't gotten anything new in for months. :P

Can't wait to stock up on the Ozark Mountain Daredevils' back catalogue.

Oh, God- I remember that movie. I had the soundtrack on lp for a while- what's the girl's name who was in it & sang? Jessica Something? She was kinda cute. And the Fee Waybill kinda guy who sang the rock stuff?

"Our love, is ooooover, baby."

3 Criterions. What'd they come down to after the discount?

Neither Phantom nor Grizzly are Criterions so only 2. It was about $80. Both the Criterions were $29.99 before the discount. Most of the catalog is more than that. Sadly 10% off here in LA County covers the 8.75% sales tax. The reason I bought what I bought was all 4 of those were the only copies they had so I figured I couldn't wait on them for a bigger discount & I was at Amoeba on Friday & saw neither used.

Phantom of the Paradise is the second greatest bad movie ever (Warriors #1, Scarface #3, Breakin #4). De Palma's over the top style translating in pure camp for the 70's just like Scarface for the 80's. That & Fireman's Ball are the 2 I'm really excited about

Woulda bought my own shopping cart if they got to 75%. Tower only got to about 25% when they closed down in my city. All the decent leftovers they claimed will be shipped to their London stores.

Are there still going to be London stores after this?

I thought all brick & mortar Towers were gonna be gone.

According to an acquaintence, all Towers, including London, are toast. Inventory will eventually be sold back to other retailers via the liquidation firm. I found massive discounts in Tokyo a few weeks back, and though employees weren't completely aware, they were suspicious the end was nigh.

Yeah, I don't think anything is going to get below 30% off with the exception of used CDs, maybe some singles, and a few other things.

Oh well. Hopefully I can snag a few expensive imports & such at 30% off.

I remember when a Wherehouse Music closed back home, some stuff got down to 80% off (picked up The Blood Brothers - Burn Piano sland Bun for $3 new). God, how I wish that would happen at Tower.

Tower locations here closed out 'bout a year and half ago, so the London shipping could be just a necassary decision at the time- my guess.

Remember this isn't a Tower sale. Tower & their control was ended with the bang of a gavel at auction. So all previous Tower sales history is null & void. This sale is being run by the liquidators who now own the stock (and debt) of the record store formerly known as Tower. I'd imagine the rest of the sale will go by ear. We can only cross our fingers that the liquidators aren't getting enough of a response & therefore must drop the discount more. I can't imagine 10% CD's at Tower is gonna be enough to make it work. Or at least I hope

So, is my retail "theft" history wiped from the books, too?

I remember HMV went down to about 60% when they liquidated NYC locations. Not much left, though.
