a little long winded, but something that needed to be said. heres a excerpt.

It was opined in this space at the time that Bettis himself should have worn a BLUE #5 Notre Dame jersey as a tribute to the fallen Rodney Culver, Bettis' teammate at Notre Dame.

Culver, also a Detroit native, was the Chargers' RB who, a year and a half after his Chargers were routed in the Super Bowl, died in that ValuJet crash in the Florida Everglades.
Everybody forgot everything about Rodney Culver -- but, that's what ya get for crashing into a swamp.

The writer in your Blogspot link made the point below. Nice to remember there were other people in this incident, not just Lidle.

"Someone else died in the plane? A regular slob like you and me? A woman got burned and hospitalized when Lidle's plane came through her livingroom window? We wish her the best, right?" - end quote

Funny side note. I was at a retreat the last two days with limited cell phone service. I got this text from my wife

"Cory Lidle crashed his plane in NYC and died. Hope you're having fun. Love Mrs. Oldkingfishlee"

I thought it was pretty funny.

Good God, who has time and energy to be as bitter as this guy over a fucking ballplayer?

I bet this dude's a whale of fun to be around.

Of course some other guy died. Of course the media ignored that. It's not like that's a new thing.

At least Anna Nicole isn't a baseball player. You want TRUE pathos, you gotta watch E! 24-7, man.

To be honest never heard of the guy till this incident. That might not be the case if they'd won the series.
