THE SLIP
w/ The Lovely Feathers & The Bon Savants

Dude, why didn't you tell me you guys were playing a show in Nebraska?
I'll have to see if I can make my way up there for it.

Have we ever gotten the whole story on why KPH is no longer a Bon Savant? Was it an amicable parting, or is this some pretty epic Hüsker Dü-type falling out shit?

It was very much amicable, unless they're being really good about keeping acrimony under wraps. My understanding is that as much as anything the enthusiasm required for this stage of the band's existence wasn't commensurate with the commitment required. His girlfriend rules and they did a year (at least) apart when she was studying in India. Were I he, I wouldn't be excited about being away a couple weeks or more at a time for the next couple years either.

It was weird/sad to see them without him last month though.

Plus it would've just been nice to see him at all, since I haven't in almost a year.

Entirely amicable. Thom and I have been close friends since the early 90s and we started the group together as an extension of that friendship and our compatibility as both musicians and like-minded, completely cool guys. Though I have other competing interests in life that the band was starting to become a time-sap/block on, I can't imagine a scenario wherein I departed the group on anything but the best of terms. Carl mostly has it right above, and though I am very happy to have more time to spend with Lady KPH, this decision was 99% about me focusing on other, non-musical parts of my life.

And hey, I'd love it if people would go to the shows during the upcoming tour in support of the new record. While I agree that my fun and famously engaging personality was reason enough to have supported the band in the past, I'd hope the music, most of which I helped write and create, was good enough that you'd still want to see the Bon Savants sans moi. With that in mind, thanks for taking the time to listen and support both me and the band in the past, even if it was just taking the time to listen to some silly demo. It was great to have a supportive and even mostly trustworthy community to talk with during the past 5 years.
